Stupid question about Antec 1080AMG

Ok, maybe it's because I slept 1 hour in the last 38, but here we go. I know there are drive rails, and they rock cuz we use them at work. But i can't seem to squeeze the optical in (no sick jokes please) from the outside with the brackets on them because it's just a hair too wide.......do I have to yank out the power supply to install optical drives in the 5.25 bays? I thought about sliding it in from the front without the drive rails and just screwing them old fashion style, but the holes don't really line up. Someone please help me from my own apparent stupidity....thanks

Heh. The first question would be are you sure you attached the rails correctly? The curly metal pieces should be facing outward on the front of the drive. I don't remember having any trouble with that particular case - soft but constant pressure got them in fine without needing to take off the front panel.

Have you tried different rails? I doubt it's the case itself, unless it was somehow bent in shipping.

Yup. The rails should have the side clips poking outward just a little. So when you slide it in, you hear a nice satisfying "click".

Thanks guys, that probably was the problem. I won't be able to try for sure until I get home, but now that I think of it, the Dell's we have here that I am used to at work have the curly metal pieces facing out towards the back of the drive only for hard drives, opticals do have them on the front, I can't believe I didn't think about that. I guess I deserve the schmuck award for that one :) Thanks for the information though, sometimes it helps to hear someone else's perspective. Did anyone else find it strange that the case came with such an awesome power supply? I had bought this P.S. for 99 (although it was at bloated Circuit City pricing) but this case cost me $112 and that is with the same power supply, holy wowza!

Yeah that is true too. Anyone ever hear of the front door breaking off of these badboys? I couldn't get it to shut after I installed my optical devices.....doesn't that defeat the purpose of the lock ?

Err, you couldn't get it to close so you broke it off? LOL. I sure hope not. But if you can't close the door maybe you didn't install those rails right. Are they sticking out?

You don't have the door locked open do you? :p I think the door is usually pretty stiff when it's new so if you're sure you're doing it right you should maybe just apply a little more pressure.

If you did break your door, you can get a new one direct from Antec for $6.99 + shipping.
