stupid question about 7900 gt power connector...

Why does the power adaptor dongle have two 12v connectors? Am I supposed to plug them both in?

It has 2 because it needs a lot of power. Yes, you should plug them both in. Ideally to separate lines from your PSU.

A newer PSU should have the proper connector for the card so you wouldn't need that adapter.

hmm, so far I've just been using one 12 v plug and havn't had any problems. There are no other devices on its particular line to the PSU though. Also I have a dual rail PSU (Antec 450 W), although I'm not sure what connections are on which rail.

What power connector do I plug in from the PSU without using the dongle? The P4 cpu power connector?

One of them is more than enough for a 7900 GT. The second one is really only needed for more power hungry cards like the X1900s.

If your power supply has a 6-pin PCIE power connector, it makes sense to just use that instead, but otherwise a single molex and the adapter will work fine.

Would higher OCs need both? So a 6-pin PCIE is the same as the other two?

A newer PS would indeed have the 6pin PCIe power connector, making the adapter unnecessary. It 's a 2X3 molex connector with grounds (black) and 12V (yellow) wires.
