I am trying to use the lasso tool to make selections. The problem is that if I make a long selection on one border, and if I move the pen or mouse or accidentally double click or press another button, it will automatically intersect the start and endpoint. I don't want this to happen I just want to continue where I left off. and not have it try to finish the selection. I have also tried using the add & subtract buttons. But no success. Is there a button I can press down to tell it not to do that?

no, just use the add or subtract buttons.

Try the quick selection tool if your version has it.

Personally, for detailed, extended selections I'll generally use quick mask instead of trying to make a single monolithic selection with a tool like the lasso. It more or less adds undo functionality to the same tools.

If that doesn't work for some reason, I'll draw a path to use.

ooh that's a good idea.
For some reason, I cannot stand Adobe's selection tools for intricate work. I had an easier time with a now defunct program making selections. It wouldn't try to intersect the selection unless it wes double clicked. I could make really complicated selections in pass.
Howcome more people don't gripe about it?

The tools don't bother me, but I learned with Photoshop. Painter and other non-PS solutions have always been weird to me because they're not the tools I'm used to... I suppose people who learned with other tools probably feel, like you, that some of PS' tools are weird.

I know people who almost cried when Macromedia went down - and still refuse to stop using Freehand. Oddly enough, having learned with Illustrator, I feel the same way about Freehand... it's just weird.
