Are m$ product activation cracks illegal?

They aren't right? Only pirated copies of software are? Or DMCA makes key gens illegal?

BTW, this isn't for my "illegal" copy of windows...otherwise i wouldn't be asking
 
I believe all cracks are illegal because you are getting something that you should be paying for, for free.

No, what i mean is that if you *BOUGHT* a copy of winxp, and you recently did a major upgrade of your comp and you don't wanna call m$ to diactivate your key, is using a key gen illegal?
