Stupid Mozilla...

The morning check of my SetiQ turned up a client that did not turn in a WU in nearly 24 hours. A closer look showed it was *my* machine! :Q At first I suspected another bad WU had screwed up my client but Task Manager showed Mozilla.exe taking up 99% of my CPU. I only started using Mozilla to get rid of the stupid ad on the left side of the AT forum page but considering it cost me about 5 WU's yesterday I think I'll stick with IE for now. :disgust:

:Q

Have you tried MozillaFirebird? Or closing it when you're not using it...😉😛

Seriously though, I have very few problems with MozillaFirebird, and only a couple of times has it stuck at 100% CPU (normally only when going to weird links posted in OT

I have been using Mozilla for a very long time (heh, probably over a year or two), and have never had such a problem as this. The version that I use now is 1.5, FWIW.

I've run into this same problem with both Mozilla and Firebird. 🙁

I haven't been able to nail down the cause but I try to make sure I always close the browser when I step away from my computer.

Sorry to hear of the troubles. It may be a caching problem, that supposedly, Mozilla versions 1.4.1 and above should correct this error. If necessary, update to version 1.5. If ya are already using ver 1.5, check here to try and manually change the settings to help correct it. I've used Mozilla almost exclusively for a year now and fortunately never had such issues.

I should've mentioned initially that I did have Mozilla closed when this happened. Apparently it didn't close properly. The weird thing is, unlike most other proggies that hog 99% of the CPU this didn't cause the system to become slugish at all.

I appreciate the help but I'm just going to stick with IE. Call me a lazy sheep but other than eliminating the ads on the Anandtech forums I don't see any advantage to Mozilla over IE and a decent popup killer.

EDIT: I do have Mozilla 1.5 installed.

I have been using Firebird since came out, and have yet to see this happen. Normally it says at 0 when at idle or when I am viewing the page.

deerslayer, modify your usercontent.css with some code that has been posted in the forums a few times.

Robor, is quickstart turned on? I beleive the same css code will work in opera, if you want to try that.

I sent you a PM on this matter once when I saw your post in the other thread. This code should probably not be posted directly to the board much, or the admins will "fix" the ad code so that the current CSS won't block it (they did that once before when a previous simpler CSS mod got too much public attention).

I really wish they'd just keep the subscription membership available. I don't mind paying the $30/year or whatever it is. It's worth it to have the additional PM storage, better searching, and no ads. The ads are just plain annoying. I find it hard to believe they actually work. I know I don't use them. The places I look when I want to purchase something is one of the many deal sites, the AT hot deals forum, and pricewatch.

BTW - A link to that .css file was posted in forum issues. 😉

Sorry to hear about this problem. At least it gives us something to look for if we are having trouble.

PS I love Moz... Pop thing is ok. I like the ability to have all my home pages tabed!!!😀 Instead of just one loaded page I gert 10...
