no, i'm not talking about those, i'm talking about IM's I get from MSN Messenger from random people that are pr0n ads. Like i always get them from Julie (who i dont know or dont have on my list) or something and they're pr0n ads. How do i stop those.

And also, how do i make it so when i reboot my computer and windows starts, i dont have to "log in" before it goes to the desktop, like so it will automatically log me in.

thanks.

Are you DMZ'd on a router??? I've got one box in the DMZ for an FTP, and it gets popups all the time... none of my other machines do..

I've never noticed that I receive them on the machines behind the NAT... only seemed to be on the DMZ'd machine... The ones I get orignate from Microsoft Messenger, but as I don't ahve it installed, I think it just uses that as the default service... weird issues, and something that seems to be getting worse all the time...

Dude, look through the OPTIONS. Its not that hard.

As for Ameesh's comment, I really think this is something MICROSOFT should 'fix'. This service should be disabled by default. If an admin wants it running, let HIM run it. They should seriously consider this for SP2..

BTW, Im running XP Personal Firewall, and I have not received ONE of these messages, and I've been using the same IP address, with 5 different domains pointing to it for a year and a half now.

How can they send you a message unless you are on their buddy list? And when someone tries to add you to their buddy list you get a message stating that they have added you and you can approve/deny the request.

If you continue to receive unwanted messages from someone you can always add them to your blocked list.

I tend to think more likely what you are getting are those advertisements (spyware) pop ups designed to look like instant messages.

Run Ad-Aware.

Tools->Options->Privacy, highlight "All others" in the Allow List and click "Block". After doing this, only people you have given permission to add you to their contact list can send you IM.

With the knowledge that there are nearly 100 million Messenger users, that most of them use Hotmail for their Messenger accounts, and that over 7 million are logged on Messenger at any given time, these spammers use webbots to harvest Hotmail addresses and then use automated scripts to send IM using the buddy picker and selecting the "other" tab to enter the address...they're just taking a chance that the Hotmail address is also the active Messenger address, and that you might be logged on at the time.
