Ok ... so i just cracked open an old 4.3 gb hard disk ... Had a lot of bad sectors and stuff...

Now that its open... i was wondering.. what would happen if i plug it in?

Will it spin at all? Will i get electrocuted?

Anybody done this before?

I've done it. The platter just spins and the head clicks and clacks back and forth. Try putting a sharpie on the platter while it spins. You can experiment with all sorts of stuff.

BTW: 5400 RPM looks really fast, I wish I had a 15,000 RPM SCSI drive laying around that I could try this with.

I have a video from mine. But in the video the drive doesn't spin as fast as it used to because I damaged the motor. I was putting candles against it while it was spinning.

if you want to be really l33t you gotta do this to the HD in your main rig, and have it viewable through your side glass window with the l33t h4x0r cs log0 on it.

This is what happens.

Video (8MB - DivX codec required). Best to download first (right click...save as) rather than try to stream it.

LOL. Thats what mine used to do until I got bored of it and started rubbing things against the platter. Forgot to get video during that fun night. Tried sharpies and then flame and then a candle and then a screwdriver.

Does .avi even stream? Meh, I've never really bothered with streaming. Also, slow server. Only 140k/s :p

Also, cool beans. Awesome to the max. Would see again, A++++++++++

that might actually be a cool looking case mod... even if you weren't actually storing data on it..

Fortunately, I'm not a case modder....

make it into a speaker like that one dude did.

the link above is sort of what im talking about.
i think it was from "ghetto mods" or somthing similar.
he had three different sizes so it replicated a speaker output.
he had some songs up there you could listen to.
very interesting.

found it.
old, but i think it applies to this thread.

....put your ear closly to the platter, spin it backwards and maybe your mp3s will spit out demonic untoned lyrics.
