Stupid friend got gun pulled on him by Border Patrol Agent

I'm down here in Texas for a month from NJ and I visited one of my friend's friends house over the weekend. They really wanted to give me a tour of their town in their truck. but since they were 16 and 18 years old, I was really hesitant to tag along because I knew their "tour" wouldn't be exactly what I had in mind. However, the other kids in the group who seemed to be a bit more mature really wanted me to come and I decided to tag along...

so its around midnight and I get in the truck with the 18 yr old and the rest of the kids follow around in the Mustang. He takes me to a few sites in his town and we stop by a fast food joint. They really wanted to eat outside someplace cool and one of the kids was really fascinated by airplanes so they decide to bring me to the local airport's observation area so we could sit on the grass and watch planes take off and land... this is where the fun starts...

so its 2AM when we reach the airport and these clowns have no idea where the observation area is, so the kid was like lets just ask a police officer or airport employee where the obersvation tower is. So he stops by a gate right before a cargo terminal where there is a police booth and stops right in front of it... two officers come out and one approaches the car. The officer came up to the window and asked what we were doing here at this time and the kid explains the whole deal. Now The officer then gives us directions to the observation area while I'm wonderin whether its a good idea just going up to security points at this time of the night and asking for directions... It must be texas thing I thought to myself...

so now the clown is driving around and still can't find it so he goes into a parking lot and to look for someone who can guide us. Just as we were exiting the lot he sees a border patrol car turn into the lot so the kid circles back in the lot, tries to get the attention of the car by highbeaming it and then follows it as it parks and stops the car right BEHIND the parked border patrol car and jets out the truck and approaches the car. I see the guy in the car reaching the back and before you know it, the border patrol officer gets out of his car with a gun pointed at this dude's chest and shouts:
"WHAT THE F DO YOU WANT? DO YOU SEE THIS BADGE? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HIGHBEAMING ME? I HAVE FULL AUTHORITY TO TAKE YOU OUT RIGHT NOW...."
My heart skips for a second and I honestly thought the kid was going to be killed right then and there but then also realize that this guy is trained and likely will not shoot him.

The kids hands dart up and he blabbers about something like :"Please don't kill me, I'm just here to ask for directions"[/b]. After a tense 5 minutes of heated exchange the agent understood that he was just a stupid kid and slowly lowers the gun and tells him that he shouldn't pull off something like this at this time of the night and shouldn't just run up to DHS marked vehicles at this time. So the the agent calms both himself and the kid down and gives him directions and by this time I'm freakin pissed at the antics of this stupid kid and tell the kid and the group that we are going straight back home...

So thats how my weekend went.. how about yours?

(Sorry no cliffs right now.. I just got back and I need to get up early to goto work tommorrow)

I would never hang out with people like the kid in your story, but I always find the stories of their antics quite amusing.

OK, maybe the way he approached the BP guy wasn't the smartest but I don't think stopping him to ask for directions is too unreasonable...

Like the Border Patrol didn't know he was justing asking for directions. It's after 2AM, the automobile that highbeamed him parked right behind and occupant runs out of the truck. What the heck kind of reaction did you expect?

He didn't need to highbeam because the BP car is parked. Likewise no need to park right behind the BP, and just plain stupid to run outta his vehicle toward men with guns after 2AM.

It wasn't and it isn't. 🙂

The Border Patrol agent overreacted. It shouldn't have taken 5 minutes (if your account is accurate) to defuse the situation.

Oh, and your friend isn't too bright.

No ******. Border Patrol can take someone out for high beaming them? I call shens

It's great that they give idiots guns in the US. I like how he threatened someone's life for having their full-beams on. Awesome. 8/10

Very strange people. How many flights are coming in after 2am... you could probably sit out there for hours without seeing any?

Welcome to the border, America's new police academy where minimally trained recruits are handed guns and SUVs and sent out on their own to enforce complex immigration and customs laws. New recruits sign up, train, and stay with the BP only until they can find law enforcement jobs elsewhere. Last week some dink sent a notice to all agents informing them that immigrant smugglers had hired MS-13 hitmen to clear the border of agents. Experienced officers would have added the memo to the circular file but there aren't many experienced officers left.

this is a very good point.. living in San Antonio (8th or 9th largest city in the country), there are no scheduled flights that late.

There are no really big cities on the border, so it doesn't make sense to want to watch planes land at that time.

you pull IN FRONT OF police vehicles and wait for them to approach the car
you don't flash your lights at them like MS 13

duh dolts

So assassins take out border patrols by flashing their high beams at them and parking next to them? I would think that would be somewhat counter-productive to the entire...assassination. At least if I was an assassin that probably would not be plan a,b, or c.

Driving up behind a law enforcement vehicle with your brights on and then getting out and moving towards the vehicle from behind is about the dummest thing imaginable.

At 2AM, an unknown car driving around recklessly starts shining the highbeams at ya. They pull up behind, someone gets out, and starts RUNNING towards your car.

Considering traffic stops have the highest number of police officer deaths every year, you're damn right I'd be on edge.
