When I went to turn on the new system I built last night I forgot to turn on the power on the PSU before powering up... so I thought that there must be something wrong with one of the components and opened the case and started checking all my connections. Everything appeared to be fine so I tried powering up again... still nothing, then I checked the psu and it was off, I felt really stupid. What are some stupid mistakes you have made on your new builds? Broken parts, forgot to plug something in?

leaving the fan off the CPU on my Abit IC-7 Max 3. it actually started up and i
went to install the OS - and then - IT BLEW UP !

no, just kidding. the CPU was really hot, i swore a little, put on the fan, and
was amazed that it still ran. it still runs ... i have Pro-E on it.

The dumbest thing I did on a new rig at powerup was not connecting my hdd power. Imagine my surprise when I saw no hdd present. I thought something really serious happened to my new build. Nevertheless, I'm still learning.

Had 2 optical drives hooked up, but both were set to master, so they didn't work :(

hmm, the only thing i can think of ws when i built my dad's computer. it wan only my second build and i connected all the case wires hirizontaly instead of vertically. it quite obviously didn't work. i figured it out pretty quickly though.
