Stupid DVD+-R media question

Hey all. I have looked a bit on this, but couldn't find anything definitive, and...feeling lazy today, I thought it easier just to ask here since someone will surely know. I have seen sometimes when DVD discs are being sold that they are specified to be "thermal printable" or "inkjet printable". Now, does this mean that you can't write (sharpie) or otherwise make a label for other discs? I am new to the DVD side of things, so I just want to make sure I won't mess up my backups by trying to put a decent looking label on them. Thanks for the help, sorry for the question

Haven?t had a problem with using a sharpie on dvdr's (- anyway), the inkjet printable and thermal printable refer to actually printing labels on the discs, I believe Epson now offers a machine which can print directly onto DVD?s and cd's through a special slot.

i haven't a problem writing with a sharpie onto my recordable media too (3 different brands thus far)

I didn't think it could cause problems. My main concern was making labels, as I still want my backups to look nice. I wasn't sure if the write process was the same as a CD-R, or if the laser was somehow different to where having a label put on a burned disc after burning would interfere with something....anyone labeled their burnt DVD's?
