Stupid big piece of metal on the highway!!!!

I was driving home from work around 8:30PM or so and there was a big piece of metal on the highway. I didn't see it and it got stuck underneath my car - and I dragged this thing for a few more feet until I pulled up - there were sparks everywhere. Well, I finally struggled to get it out but noticed I have slight damage underneath my doors and some scrapes on the back side of the car. It's a black car so it will show easily. I feel awful about this. I love my car and this really makes me depressed.

What should I do now? How much should I expect to pay for these generally minor damages? I think some paint and some bodywork is required.

Whatever you insurance deductible is.

damn that really sucks. the other day i saw a spare fall off a trailer. we were able to avoid it but the car behind us wasn't. i saw the car hit it hard and go over it. wonder if anything was broken.

So what do you think I should do? Call the insurance company? Or try to fix it myself?

How did you not hear/feel that? 😵

It felt awful and the noises were unbearable. I can't imagine putting my car under those kinds of conditions.

insurance probably aint worth it for minor bodywork.

Depends on what damage was actually done to your car ... I've hit some pretty wicked stuff on the highway over the years & some of it has done serious damage while other stuff did cosmetic harm only. If it was only paint & minor body damage you should be able to at least minimize the effect on your cars appearence, but if any major mechanical damage happened you'll most likely need to take it to a shop.

depends on what kind of policy you have and your insurance company

Thanks all. Well I've checked the underbelly and didn't notice anything odd, but I could be wrong. The damage appears to be cosmetic - the paint and body damage and even that is not really that visible until you get up close. There is a scrape that is about 6 inches long and 2 inches across near the end of the car, however. Should I take this to a Honda dealership to have them look at it? Or a independent shop that repairs body/paint?

I'd take it to a body / paint shop get a quote, compare the excess of insurance and judge accordingly. Don't forget to factor in the increase in premium for an at fault claim (depending on your policy)

theres a thread here somewhere where somone drove into one of those bigass hydraulic jacks you can pick up houses with. be glad your not him.
