Stupid battleground state

We get about 9 mailers a day and our commercials are 98% political ads. And my God are they bad. We'll either end up dead, a colony of China, a socialist wasteland, or everyone will be out of a job. Or some combination of those

I've been changing between channels the last several weeks because of the ads. I keep a few things in mind, so if ads come on (say while watching football), I flip over to another game until the commercial break is over.

Politics is about selling fear / anger to their "constituents", and like you I'm tired of hearing about it every 10 minutes.

We're catching up on a recorded game so no switching for us unfortunately (and Hulu TV can't skip commercials on this channel)

We've been watching a lot more streaming services here (along with channels like Starz, HBO, etc.) to just to get a break from political stuff. I know it's impossible to totally stay away from it, but I sure do try.

One of my favorite quotes from George Orwell:
In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia".

Here in California, the volume of mailers and ads is roughly the same. But relatively little of it is national politics. Mostly state-wide propositions or local races. I try not to watch much broadcast TV because it's virtually all political advertising or pharmaceuticals (followed by some car ads). It's a stupendous amount of money spent on an election cycle, and on drugging up an unhealthy society.

Haven't seen any mailers, and I don't have anything that serves commercials. Aside from road signs, I wouldn't know anything was happening. I turned the news off around the first of year. Hoping 2021 fixes the news channels...

None?

I've gotten like 5-10 political mailers a week, for probably the last 3-4 months at least. Hell, I probably got 5 of them in yesterday's mail alone on counter (before going to the shredder).

None that I'm aware of. I think politics is pretty clearcut here. There might be a little uncertainty regarding county positions, but Hillary running as a surprise libertarian candidate would have been more likely than Trump winning.

This is because negative ads are allowed. If a political add could only have stuff about the party involved instead of speaking negatively about the opponent party, ads would still be annoying but nowhere near as bad.

In my country, political adds aren't allowed @ all (referring to TV adds, for both government and presidential races): EVERY party has a "right to have air time". Parties use this air time to speak about THEIR POLICIES and what THEY INTEND TO DO once elected: they are NOT ALLOWED to talk about other parties.

But this is only on TV: it's a different story on rallies, where they can talk about their opponents all they want.

I'm not sure if a similar thing would work in the U.S. It would be nice not see all the angry/doom commercials for sure.

We've always had people on the extreme left and extreme right in our country. While their voices were loud, they were a small percentage of the overall population. However, to me it seems that the middle group of voters have migrated (either by choice, or by having no other option) towards the extreme sides of politics. Now both extreme sides are much larger, and I fear it is only going to get worse going forward. First you divide people into smaller groups, and then force those groups to choose their poison on who to partner with. The days of everyone compromising a little bit for the overall benefit of the country are fast coming to an end. Now it's my way or the highway.

We haven't watch 10 minutes of 'broadcast TV' since probably April. 90% of the mail received every day goes in the recycling bin, which is beside the side door.

Actually the only thing that makes it past the recycling bin is first class mail and packages, and there is very little first class mail since all my bills are paperless.

Do keep up with local news by clicking on stories on their websites, plus the print newspaper that comes every day.

Yeah the political flyers have gotten to max levels the past few days. I must've had about 8 total yesterday maybe? Poop

That is just not true. We will be zombie Chinese slaves for the socialist wasteland, so really we will be the undead.

All kinds of commercials and mailers here. I voted 2 weeks ago.

Dropped my ballot in drop-box earlier today ... fortunately easy to find one in Connecticut unlike some other places.

Not going to get specific on politics here in the "neutral-zone" of OT but if the news reports out of Texas from today turn out to be accurate I honestly am afraid for the country.

Serves you right for living in a state where the citizenry cannot discern the obvious lesser of the two evils. 😄 Of course, there are too many states where the citizenry is even worse!

Thanks to my (obviously intellectually challenged demographic), I have been getting regular mailings from White House. Recently my cell phone has been receiving calls and texts about races in Ohio (only 2000 miles away...). Tuesday cannot come soon enough!

I was watching the football game (online stream) this past Monday night and the commercials were all for these oddly named products and companies I'd never heard of ... plus EVERYONE was smiling constantly and being polite to each other?!?

It was very strange and confusing at first ... then I realized for some reason I was actually watching a stream from Canada and it all made sense.

🙂

I've only gotten a few political mailings and a few more door-hangers ... I cut the cord years ago so TV commercials of any kind are something I see very little of.

Last night the wife and I were watching [Direc]TV and a political ad came on and the politician that approved the video said "I endorse <some democratic candidate> and I'm a republican". Never have I ever 😛 seen such a political thing, but it is a thing that is growing more and more. Other republicans voting democratic and not staying the party line. Do we thank Trump & Co. for this?

Yeah John McCains wife did an ad for Joe Biden:

Hey... at least your vote for president means something. I know that no matter whom I vote for here in Connecticut, Joe Biden will win the delegates in this state by more than 10% of the vote. They haven't voted for a Republican presidential candidate here since Ronald Reagan's second term.
