Stupid Battery Question - Multiple Button Batteries

Disected a little LED toy. There are three button batteries stacked back to back, each 1.5v.

Trying to figure out if I can replace the three 1.5v batteries with a single or double AA or AAA.

White LEDs typically have Vf about 3.6V. In these cheap lights, they use the internal resistance of the button cells as ballast.

It's not a direct swap to more powerful batteries like AAs, as an appropriate ballast resistor would be required.
