Got my new axim today. One dead pixel on it. Dell's policy is that you need to have 3 on it to RMA it. :|

Usually, PDAs don't let you touch the actual LCD, there's a layer of glass/plastic over the actual screen. Rub all you want, you're just smudging the glass ;)

I'm sure you guys may have thought of this, but considering how many pixels there are in the screen, 1 bad one isn't that bad. I have a few on my laptop (3 or 4 I think). It bothered me a lot for a few months after I got my laptop, now I probably couldn't tell you where they are.

The real michael chang got a very hot girlfriend.

Cashman, here's a list of valid excuses for RMA:
the ppc2003 is running very slow on the axim
the analog pad is very loose
the headphone jack is broken

If you exchange within 30 days, you will get a new Axim, after 30 days you will get a refurbished one.

Lol, people complain about a few "dead pixels" on an LCD screen FULL of pixels. I don't think they really realize how insignificant one pixel is. Furthermore this is a KNOWN issue with LCD monitors. wtf makes people think they can just get another monitor free because their lcd has a dead pixel on it which is NORMAL. The LCD IS in perfect running/new condition. It is not defective. It works.

It's funny when you get people buying lcds or whatever lcd product then complain about something like a dead pixel. ha. its like buying a ferrari then complaining that it's not as reliable as some of the 4bangers you see running around all day. It does what it's meant to do. Period.

Agreed, it's just one of the downsides of a LCD. Don't like it? I'm sure someone can rig you up a PDA with a CRT screen.

Out of about 10 LCDs I've had, both stand alone monitors and laptops, half of them have had a bad pixel somewhere. It's just a fact of life when you have a LCD monitor.

...wonders why companies don't offer an extra, say, $50 charge to ensure no dead pixels...if that were the case I'd be ALL about an LCD...dead pixels is the only problem now.

Quit whining. You still should have 85,399 good pixels to play with. Some people can never be satisfied! ;)

I disagree. Going by your reasoning:

You: Hello Mr. Car salesman; I just picked up my brand-new Nissan 350Z from the Make-Ready shop and there's a scratch on the left door

Salesguy: Well hell Mr. Chang, there's 5,400 square inches of paint on that car! You expect EVERY inch to be scratch-free?

Get my point? If I buy ANYTHING brand new, it better come vacuum packed, in a static bag and not have a scratch, dent or dead pixel on it.

It's my money. And I"m always right when it comes to my money.

LCDs still suck for everything except word processing and surfing the web, IMHO.

You might think LCDs suck for everything except word processing and surfing the web but the LCDs you are talking about are $299 Walmart LCDs... get a 22' Sony Widescreen LCD and you'll regret what you just said.

Yeah, start pressing on the screnn really hard. However, at that point, they may not take it back.

No LCD manufacturer guarantees that there will be no dead pixels, they only guarantee that there will be no more than a certain number. Anyone who buys a LCD should be fully aware of the fact.
