stupid audio connection question

There should be a hole in the "screw" part of it, is that the hole you're using?

What gauge wire are you using?
 
oh...i guess i'm probably putting them in the wrong way then.

On my receiver they go in from the side...what happens if i over tighten?
 
The top hole is generally for banana plugs. Try unscrewing the nut to reveal a hole that goes through the side of the post.

You just put the cables in the place where the jumpers are and twist them all together. I would just get four banana plugs so you have more mobility.
