Stupid ASUS problem.

Hi guys. I have an ASUS p3v4x MOBO and an ASUS 6800 deluxe geforce card. Here are the problems: Most of the time when I first turn on my system, it will go directly to the bios saying something about a worng processor setting (even though its right). I hit save/exit then it will reboot just fine. My other problem it that 50% of the time when I boot into windows and run a disply/properties check it tells me the video card has only 16 megs of ram when it has 32 megs. A shut down and reboot rights everything. I havent mentioned all the other things in my system because this happens even when I remove everthing but the video card. I have a P3 650e if that is of any help. This is annoying as I have to usually reboot at least once in order for all to work ok. I am running version 1005 BTW. Could it be my PS? its an A-open 300w PS, should be more than enough. Thanks in advance.

Have you tested with a different video card/motherboard?

Detecting only 16MB of RAM on the card sometmes is a known issue with some geforce cards.

There are known issues with the P3V4X and GeForce, although it appears that you have 2 separate problems here.

The first issue may be insufficient power supply, and is documented here.

With the RAM detection, you may find this section of the GeForce FAQ applicable.

I think I'd probably be better off just getting a newer MOBO. How is the Cuv4x-v? Any good?

Hello,

Before you go out buying a new motherboard, it could just be a corrupt BIOS. Reset the bios by either finding the reset BIOS jumper (usually near the battery), or by removing the battery for a minute and then replacing it. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may want to go for a new motherboard.

Did that already cyg. Thanks though. I think its time for a new board anyway. Its been a year. Now to find just the right one for ECC ram.

The P3V4X booting up to BIOS with that wrong FSB error is what I sometimes get (also have a P3V4X with P3-650E, but I overclock to 949). Usually I get it only when I'm trying to overclock/test something and the system crashes, then I turn off the power via power supply switch, instead of hitting the reset button, and boot up again. Otherwise I don't get it if Windows shuts down normally.

That issue with 16 MB being detected for the GeForce DDR isn't really P3V4X specific. I've had that problem when I was running an ASUS P3B-F with a Leadtek Winfast DDR card, and it happened to be the GeForce card. I exchanged the GeForce for a new one of the same model and the computer would only see 16 MB once in every 20 boots (as opposed to 1 in every 5). The new Leadtek also worked fine after switching motherboards to a P3V4X. My friend's Leadtek Winfast DDR slowly died, and as it got closer to its death, would only show 16 MB every other boot (he has an ABIT BX6-2). He returned the card and the new one worked fine. My current Guillemot/Hercules 3D Prophet-DDR DVI will show 16 MB instead of 32 MB every 1 in 15, but that's fine with me - if I see 16 MB in the video card's boot screen, I'll just reset my computer, and all is OK.
