I was playing black and white with the ape as my animal, doing the "hermit" quest. Well it was the second time I brought my ape to him and the second time he said he was to small, well allright, my ape got sad and all that but then he ATE THE HERMIT.

anyone know what I missed?
 
Make sure your monkey tries it first on a villager then smack him around. Mine ate the hermit, laughed then crapped in his yard.
