Stunning next Porsche 911

Looks great, but I am not enthused about putting a V-8 into the 911.

In the interest of clarity, the C6 pics everyone is complaining about are sheer speculation by Road and Track, and I would be amazed if they prove to be accurate.

The Porsche looks great. I wouldn't mind an 8 cylinder engine as long as it was still a boxer configuration.

Well originally it didn't have a 6 cylinder anyway so I don't think they would be too upset.

It is still unclear what the engine range for this new sports car will look like but it will feature V8 water-cooled engines. There will probably also be a 278kW 3.6-litre flat six power train.

Hmmm a water cooled V-8 hanging past the rear axle. Sounds like oversteer to me.

Why does porsche feel a need to change so much lately(ie SUV, V8...) they should keep the exact same formula like the previous 993 style, just add more horsepower.

hmmm... sounds like understeer to me...

The C6 is fricken awesome, it reminds me of the Crossfire, very sporty and sleek. And get off your high flat six, I'm sure any owner of a new 911 will appreciate the extra torque of a V8. And the new look makes it look much more aggressive, though the basic design hasn't changed since ever.

You must remember that this is not an American car. They can make powerful V8 motors that are not huge as hell.

Regardless, the more weight on the rear axle, the more oversteer.

I think they have enough engineering know how to over come a couple pounds for a larger motor.

My favorite 2 Porsche's & why:

993 (Mid-90's 911) Carrera Convertable
Great looks
Air-cooled, rear-engine Flat 6 (talk about tradition)
Great handling (arguably better than the current 996 & much better than the older 911's), but just a tad of oversteer.

1993 968 Club Sport
Great looks again, possibly the best looking Porsche ever.
240hp, 1335kg = great performance
50/50 weight balance derived off the 924/944 chasis = great handling
Autocar elected it as the best handling car in 1993 and 94, against Ferrari 348, Lotus Esprit and Honda NSX etc.

Or maybe my 944 (series 2) 🙂

They might as well discontinue the 911 if they're going to a water-cooled v8. Don't claim it as a 911, when it's nothing of the such. Might as well make it front (or mid) engine as well. Considering the beating Porsche took when they changed the 911 to a water cooled engine (996), even when they preserved the flat-6 setup, I'd hate to see what this does.

Sure looks a lot like the Carrera GT concept car though (especially in the front bodywork).

It's a lot easier to engineer with he laws of Physics in your favor, then when you have to fight them as well. More engineering will just mean a more expensive car with more parts & still probably won't do the job as well as a design that naturally performs better.

Boy, you're just asking for trouble posting that in this forum....

Yesh, yesh I am... 😀😀😀
Well, in reality... I'm hoping Toyota isn't just teasing us with plans for the Mk V Supra TT.

Does anyone have a link to a high-res version of the new 911 pic? That thing looks just stunning - really a gorgeous re-imagining of the classic 911, with just enough of its traditional appearance, mixed with an elegant new roofline and a sleeker profile. I think this is one of the most impressive new car designs in years.

If they're gonna go 8 cyl, at least go with a straight 8 🙂

<-- no idea how they'd fit that in there, but that's what they're paid to do isn't it? 🙂
