Stung by a yellow jacket

So OT, was mowing the lawn and hit a yellowjacket nest.

Got two right in the lip. It now looks like the right side of my mouth is shut. It also hurts pretty badly.

Discuss.

I broke my neck back around 1990 and have never mentioned it here. I think a broken neck is a helluva lot more serious than a couple of stings. IOW, nobody cares.

I'm trying to entertain myself while holding an ice bag on my face. Boo hoo.

People can die from bee stings.

Then this bee sting thread will be your ATOT legacy. That's why you shouldn't create a stupid thread in case its your last. 😛

OSHI-

I got stung by a yellow jacket last summer while riding my bike along Lake Michigan. It somehow got into my t-shirt where I smacked it, but not before it stung me at the base of my chest. Good news was, it turns out I'm not allergic to yellow jackets.

well aren't you special

I've been stuck on the lip before. It stings.
I've been stung inside my ear when I was little, it sucked.

The worst I think are the people who get bees inside their drinks and get stung inside the mouth or throat. Fortunately, that never happened to me, but it did happen to quite a few of the others back in scouts.

I like fire.

I got stung on the finger when I was 2 and to this day I'm terrified of yellow jackets, bees, wasps, hornets... anything big and yellow that buzzes around.

Ugh, time to take the ice off.

My face is going to be a baloon. Wow my lip hurts.

Freaking residual pain, screw yellow jackets 🙁

Do take the pics. They'll be funny.

Do take an antihistamine. It'll help avoid some of the pain that's coming your way.

(I've had a similar stingy experience. The pics are funny and I'm glad I have 'em.)

So did you bomb their nest yet?

No, but I think I ran over it with the lawnmower. At least, I think I did. I just got popped in the mouth then started to run.

I'm gonna set the thing on FIRE tonight.

I remember back when I camped more there was these stairs that went up a hill. Often when someone would use them they'd get stung by this fantom bug. Never really knew what it was but figured it was a hornet. We decided to investigate and it turned out there was a nest under the stairs!

So me, my cousin, my grandpa, and a friend all went to see if we can locate the nest better. My grandpa, who seems to be imune to all possible dangers of nature, goes RIGHT up to it and starts poking under the stair to feel for the nest. Us 3 are 10 feet behind. My cousin got stung by a few and started running down, I got stung on the foot, then at that point my grandpa stopped and we all headed back down. My cousin is showing all the spots he got stung then got interrupted by something in his mouth, and got stung right there and then, INSIDE his mouth lip area. It got HUGE. Man, that was hilarious.

I was determined to kill off that nest. Bricks, shovels, lots of sand, and lots of buckets of water, and the nest was gone. It took about 2 days though. Every now and then I'd go down to the lake to get a bucket full, walk all the way up, run up, dump it and keep running. Do the same with sand etc. Fun times.

Hornets don't hurt as much as I expected tbh. But I would not want to step on a nest and have 100's on me. 😱

Oh and I did a google search for yellowjacket and it turns out it's just a hornet, or at least a species of them, so was probably those in my case.

Honestly, the sting wasn't as bad as the pain afterwards.

It's still freaking throbbing 🙁
