Hey All..

What would cause a NIC to not be able to obtain an IP address? I have had running a two-pc network that is hooked through a Linksys 4-port router, and from when I installed it (over 1 month), all systems go on the internet/file sharing front.

Then one day, on one PC, I could not file share or internet connect. I checked my cables and all worked through a direct connect from the cable modem. It was only when it was hooked back to the router that it caused problems. After some trial and tribulation, I had to then reconfigure the NIC to match a static IP to the other PC that was working, along with DNS/Subnet Mask entrys. It is back up again right now.

Anywho, back to my main question. Why would a NIC that was working all along all of a sudden not be able to obtain an IP address automatically, and therefore assign all 0s, which therefore would not allow me to do anything?
