specs:

vista 32-bit
biostar nf4u am2g
2gb ram
3800 x2
7900gt

booted into windows. no problems. i install latest drivers and reboot. when i open the dvd-rom tray or even plug in a usb memory stick the screen flicks off and then back on really quick. you know the flick when you install drivers for the first time and it does the flick during installation. it does that every time i try and do something such as the above.

so i uninstalled and went back a few driver versions. same problem.

out of ideas.

any help?

sounds like it might be a goofy irq thing... although i have an analog in crt that seems to reset now a lot more often that i hooked it up to 8800gt sli... seems to need to fix it's sync more often than before...

bump anyone?

fwiw it's on a 15" oldddddd crt monitor. maybe that has something to do with it.

it used to be an old rig of mine and worked flawlessly. nothing has changed when i had it. maybe i should try an lcd..

This could be happening when the CPU is switching between power states. Are you using CoolnQuiet? Does the flickering occur with CnQ off i.e. no switching between power states?

CnQ is in the BIOS, not windows. Also, are you sure it's not a magnetic or static problem?
