I just built a system for my sister for graduation this past week. I installed an OEM yamaha 16x burner, and a 52x CD-ROM. I'm using NERO burning software. The first CD that I test copied worked great, but now all of the subsequent ones are failing. I've tried at multiple speeds.

I've also noticed that when I play an audio CD in EITHER of the CD drives, it jumps and skips badly. Not sure exactly what to make of this?? Did I get a bad burner or ROM, OR BOTH???? It has 128MB PC133, and is up around 95% free system resources. I'm looking for any and all help. Thank you very much in advance. The system specs are as follows.

MSI k7tpro2a mobo
Duron 800
128MB PC133
Yamaha 16x burner
52x CD-ROM
Windows ME

Do you have both drives on same Cable?

if so,try switching the cables,or hook only one drive up to the Secondary IDE by itself and see what happens.

I have the CD-ROM slaved to my Hd on the primary IDE, and the CDRW by itself on the secondary :)

Not to state the obvious here but ME is a picky little ^%Q#@ when it comes to drivers. Are you sure you have the correct set installed? What's your power supply? Do you have access to a higher one to see if that's the prob?

If you are using the huge-yucky microsoft media player, you can turn off
digital read (or something like that), so that it plays it like a normal
music cd, otherwise it is trying to read the data and then play, almost
like ripping the cd and then play, ripping and playing. I think some
cd roms take this worse than others and you wind up with skips and pops.

I have cdrom master to the cdrw. Hard drive on its own channel. Hard drive will revert to slowest hardware on its channel. Did you check for conflicts in device manager?
