Just heard a song on somafm. Ray Anthony and His Bookends - Your Christmas Kisses(1961). Song kind of sucks, but I looked up Ray Anthony. I was wondering if I had the right listing. He's the last surviving member of the original Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the oldest living recorded musician at 103. Still not sure how a swing trumpeter can make a song like Christmas Kisses, but here we are :^D

Nice to see I'd already disabled this.
They did some analysis of the archive and found some interesting trends

  • Spotify has around 256 million tracks. This collection contains metadata for an estimated 99.9% of tracks.
  • We archived around 86 million music files, representing around 99.6% of listens. It’s a little under 300TB in total size.
  • We primarily used Spotify’s “popularity” metric to prioritize tracks

I wonder if opera and choral are seemingly over-represented due to crediting the various performers, since the chart is showing "artists per genre" at the top.
For example, looking at Der Fledermaus / Act II: No. 11, Finale. c. Genug damit, genug, there are 11 artists listed for that track.

Europe's tree of the year 2015 was an Estonian oak located in the playable section of a soccer field...

I fucking love that idea as a concept. Mandate planting trees in sportsball venues to make the lame ass game more interesting, and add challenge. Trees should be randomly placed, and not have the locations codified. Makes it harder to plan around, and adds randomness to the games.

In searching for something else, I came across this 1896 photo from the University of Arizona.

The brick part of the building is "Old Main", the first building constructed on campus. Old Main is still in use. In 1896, it housed all the classrooms, prof offices, everything but the library and sleeping quarters. The wood addition is the mine engineering department's brand new stamp mill, used to crush ores using banks of drop hammers. Someone thought that attaching the pits of Orthanc to a classroom building was a good idea. :p I wonder how long the arrangement was tolerated.

Interior view, the vertical rods are the tops of the hammers (stamps).

I recently learned this :

Do a CTRL+ C for to copy a text with formatting.

Press CTRL + V to paste text with formatting.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + V to paste text without formatting.

I wish "without formatting" was the default. I have never ran into a situation where I wanted to keep the formatting when pasting text from one place to the other. Good to know about shift though... did not know about that shortcut either.

Me too. I also wish that paste without formatting was the default.
I have been copy pasting into a simple ascii editor to remove all formatting for years.

I just recently learned this method.
