My movie screen is a 23" monitor. I'm absolutely happy with that. I watch little video, and everything looked like shit when I was growing up. I can watch almost any res just fine.

are you still on TELEX? I don't even have a super speed pipe, only 150gbps.
My current limited download speed is 100 KBps because I'm being too cheap to pay. If I pay for premium tier, I'll get maybe 2 to 3 MBps. I don't have $100 per month to pay just for internet, especially when I'm not at home more than 10 hours a day 6 days a week.

Yea, but I just don't care. I don't care about phone res either. I've had a couple that had super pixel density(for their time), and it was just a waste of battery power driving all those pixels. Good enough is good enough.

Sure, I can see the visible difference between DVDrip and BDrip and 4K_UHD_rip but usually BDrips at under 4GB and sometimes even under 2GB suffice with more than enough detail.

I remember downloading from BBS on 2400 baud modem. I even had my own phone line just so I don't get disconnected when people in the house pick up the phone :colbert:

My download is ~2MB. Kind of sucks, but it's worth it to have internet the way I want it. I could make a torrentbox directly on my hotspot phone, and get native 5G performance for downloads, but that's too much work at this point. I don't usually need anything that fast.

During that era, I used to dream about someday having two ISDN lines bonded together. I've never had really fast internet for long. There have been periods of pure bliss but they just don't last long. It feels like having a roof on my head, even just one meal a day and fast internet is not something Earth can give me without having to work long hours every day. I feel like someone who didn't need to exist but I do :(

hmmm, only "40 years" (more I've translated from Otia Imperialia written circa 1200AD)

"VII. Of the three gifts.
In Italy there is a city called Terdona, so called from the three gifts with which it is said to have been endowed by the natives. On the eve of Easter, when the hour of baptism has come, clear water, gushing forth for baptism, and very limpid, boils in the fountain of the baptistery.

There is in the same city the church of S. Quintius, in which whoever is baptized, his life is extended to a period of forty years.

A more wonderful sign occurs in the territory of the same city. For whenever any head of a household in that place has a term of death within a year, the furrow of that land, when the earth is split with the plow, flows with blood under the blade. Hence, they say, it was established by a very ancient custom that whenever the inhabitants hired cattlemen for an annual wage, they made them swear, after reading the sacred Gospels, that were such a sentence of death evoked, it would be announced to the head of the household."

Malta - definitely. Maybe the Templar history it has, maybe The Maltese Falcon, who knows. A big attraction though for me, since I only speak English, is that fact that it's one of only handful (that know about) of non-English countries where virtually everyone speaks English.

I mean, it's also a pretty safe bet for the Netherlands, Iceland, Israel, there are more. But for me, Malta is just . . . special.
