Because left wing extremeists are groups like ELF, etc. In the 1990s they were very much talked about in the media. Since 9/11 the actions of the left wing eco-terrorists have died down because they no longer just get charged with arson, but with terrorism and the jail sentences go from ~2 years in jail to ~30 years in jail because of that.
