Wow, I must have gone to the only facility that makes you actually DRIVE to pass a driving test. Did the written test (for the most part same everywhere). When I took the test they had me pull out of the facility, and the first thing after that is making a lefthand turn across a four lane (busy) highway with a large grass median in the middle (first and only mistake here...pulled into the median on the left side instead of the right side). After that we did the highway for a while (lane changes), then they had me exit and drive around the old section of town (lots of red lights, stop signs, pedestrians, etc.). After that, the instructor had me merge back onto the highway and drive back to the facility. I think I did a turn or two in the parking lot. Only thing I can remember that they didn't have me do was parallel parking (took care of mastering that living in the dorms). Are you guys telling me that you didn't have to do anything like? I'm 26 BTW.

Graduated systems are nice, but there's a bigger problem. We need to make getting a license harder in the first place.

The written/pratical exams are rubbish.

There's no mandatory defensive driving course.

There's no highway driving course.

I mean it's a joke.
Very true. I'm 22 and my driving exam consisted of a BS written part and the driving was going through a calm, slow neighborhood and doing a 3-point turn. I wasn't a very safe driver when I started, age and experience have really helped.

Yep, I agree. I had to take my test in the fuggin' city though, and that sucked. But, I was still a horrible driver at that age...

im fine with 16yr olds driving. BUT i would love to see a strict yr long drivers education course with more driving time.

i started driving really early. at 14 i had a special day license that allowed me to drive with my mother in the car (she had cancer and couldnt drive). but i had to take a hard drivers ed class and pass.

I think all the experiance i got at a young age made me a safe and good driver at 16 when i got my full license. I don't think pushing the age to 18 is really going to help. It will just change the number of 18 yr olds who gets tickets and accidents.

What the hell kind of useless study is this? It says that if you have more stringent driving restrictions, there will be fewer accidents. Duh! Less people driving, less accidents.
