but then that still doesn't explain what would be the effect on a healthy person

Nono, the article suggests that growth would occur regardless, as not all the mice used in the study had a reduced hippocampus.

As the article says, hopefully this will lead to the development of drugs that can further stimulate neurogenesis. One can only hope that this may lead to treatments for diseases like Alzheimer's, etc.
