Study abroad

So in 18 days I leave for Germany. To any that have studied overseas, any tips? What not to bring, or uncommon things to bring? I'm wondering if there's going to be yard sales and things like that where I could pick up things for cheap.

Also any recommendations on a power converter? willing to pay the price for a good one...

Something else I've been wondering that through all the paperwork and information I've received hasn't been touched: do they use toilet paper in Germany? if not, how does a boo-DAY work? (or whatever you call them butt sinks)

My doctor also told me that AIDS is a bigger problem over there than it is here. Anyone back that up?

Also, anyone know if there are outlets on the planes for a laptop? I'll be on a 747.

Thanks all-

Just buy a power converter there, or at Radio Shack.

The toilets that clean your anus... I guess you have to ask.

Use condoms, don't use needle drugs, or don't have sex and you should be fine to avoid AIDS/HIV.

I am from Germany but study here in Colorado.

Where exactly are you going to?

Yes, we use toilet paper. Aids problem is the same. You can buy power converters in most electronic stores in Germany.

There are no yard or garage sales but depending on the area there might be huge flea markets. For example, in my hometown there is one flea market once a year with 300,000+ visitors.

Yeah, I got this one alot at work. "I study a broad all the time!" BWAH bwah bwaaaah.

I'll be in Lueneburg, it's in the northwest corner- 2 hours from amsterdam and an hour from hamburg.

Lars- (if he reads this again) How about pawn shops? It'd suck to have to get everything retail, just to give it away in a year...
