Finally someone is takeing a stand. Even though all of the special interest groups will get involved and defeat it before anything can happen, I think it is the right thing to do.

IIRC, I (well, parents) had to periodically verify my residency with the local school district when I was in high school and I grew up far away from the border in another state.

I agree, they should definitely be verifying student addresses. Pretty much a no brainer if you ask me.

Yep. Very common. Especially if you played sports. My parents would have to verify our residency in the school district before football season, baseball season and wrestling. A bit ridiculous to have to do it for each individual sport, but that's just the way it was.

 to Texas on this.

My favorite spin part of the story:

"It does cost us to educate these children, but we also get a benefit because we know they are likely to impact our economy in some way," said Ratcliffe, noting that many will work in the U.S. as adults."

OK, let's give the whole country of Mexico a free education and health care too, since they will probably come over here one day to work anyway.

Requiring students to actually live in the district where they attend school is reasonable and beneficial, especially where local property taxes support the schools.

I like how one lady said they moved back across the border to save money. I guess the school taxes were too much for her?

I'm still waiting for someone to come out and call this racist since it mainly targets Hispanics.
