Students evacuated from UC Davis dorm rooms

Authorities evacuated about 240 students from the University of California, Davis, from their dormitory rooms Wednesday night in the wake of a report of a potential explosive threat.

Paul Pfotenhauer, a spokesman for the UC Davis Fire Department, said that shortly before 9 p.m., a woman reported that some students were mixing potential explosives in a dormitory room.

Authorities evacuated students from several dormitory buildings in the Tercero complex to the common dining area.

Pfotenhauer said a regional bomb expert was on scene to investigate the materials. It was unknown late Wednesday night what the materials were or if they were explosives, Pfotenhauer said.

One of two students suspected of being involved with the alleged explosives has been taken into custody for questioning, but no arrests have been made, Pfotenhauer said.

Not the first time that's happened there. In the early 80's our church had a youth conference there for a week during the summer. I was sharing a room with a friend on the 4th floor of one of the dorms. Well, one morning we were in the bathroom taking shits and he was in the very end stall against the wall. The wall had a vent in it and for some reason he pulled the grate off and found tapeball the size of a baseball. After we were done crapping we went out in the hallway and started playing catch with the tape ball. Little did we know it was a racquet ball full of strike anywhere match heads wrapped tightly with tape. After about 5 minutes of throwing the ball back and forth I missed it and it hit the wall at the end of the hallway. All hell then broke loose! It exploded. And it was quite cool. But it burned all the carpet in that hallway from one end to the other. We got in a ton of trouble because we were known for doing stuff like that and the school politely told our church we weren't welcome back after that.




It was a great learning experience! tape, racquet ball, match heads----FUN!
