Because when you are playing old games, the better they look, the worse they look.

This is nothing new though, MAME has had several scan line emulation strategies for years. I believe SNES does as well.
 
CRT effects emulation is good only for this specific application of oldschool games. Those games were meant to be played on CRTs, and the various imperfections of CRTs from that era made graphics actually look better in some cases (although some of it is nostalgia, too).

I don't see this as particularly awesome.
