Students at Notre Dame Protest

I just read this in the school paper (The Exponent).

Approximately 500 students at Notre Dame decided to protest the school's new policy on hard liquor and in dorm dances. Tuesday the school announced that in dorm dances and hard liquor in the dorms will now be banned.

What I have yet to figure out is why does a religious school such as Notre Dame allow anyone to keep and consume hard liquor (or any liquor) in their dorm rooms?

Here's a quote from the paper: "Having more dances off campus means students will just drink a lot more before." That was stated by a sophomore at Notre Dame.

<< i cant believe that alcohol had been allowed in the dorm rooms there. :Q >>

Why not? It is at every other school I have ever been to..

where not allowed to have hard stuff n the dorrms. we get fined if they find it. also if you 21 the most beed you can have is a 6 pack for each person in the room who is 21. and if we have a keg or beer ball somethin of that sort and get cought we get expelled

Here at Purdue you are not allowed any alcohol in any unversity residence regardless of age.
