Pretty silly. You know the more I hear about public schools the more likely I am not to send my children to one. There is no accountability for beaurocratic idiocy. At least with a private school you've got the direct vote of your dollar.

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Cartwheels and handstands have gotten an 11-year-old girl temporarily bounced out of her Los Angeles-area school.

Deirdre Faegre was suspended for a week after repeatedly disobeying school officials who told her not to perform gymnastic stunts during lunchtime.

"Our first concern is the safety of all children," San Jose-Edison Academy Principal Denise Patton told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Patton said Deirdre could accidentally strike another student, or injure herself, and other children could get hurt trying to imitate Deirdre, who has been doing gymnastics for five years.

Deirdre's father, Leland Faegre, said it was absurd to suspend his daughter for doing gymnastics when students were allowed to play basketball and other sports.

"Contact sports, apparently, are fine. But this one is so dangerous it requires the cartwheel cops," Faegre said.

WTF!?! 😕

Well, they did ask her to stop once already. I think suspension is a bit drastic but she should have listened.
Shouldn't have asked her to stop in the first place.

It's not about the children anymore Brutuskend 🙁

And this was during lunchtime. If you are trying basketball during lunch, that's grounds for suspension. I can see her easily planting a foot in someone's face. Cartwheels you can save for the playground, not for the lunch line. Plus, she didn't listen when they asked her to stop. Stupid girl.

Damn it, injuries are part of a kids life.

In Toronto they tore out a bunch (172) of playgounds because they figured they weren't safe. But then discovered they didn't have the money to replace them with something safer, so now they kids have no monkey bars or anything in the area.

Lol

Don't laugh. I AM a cartwheel cop, and our job is extremely dangerous. I'm out there everyday protecting you from miscreants such as Ms. Faegre, and this is the kind of gratitude I get?

Okay? What are you trying to say? They aren't allowing the students to play basketball in the cafeteria, and you shouldn't being doing cartwheels in the cafeteria either.

You're making a few false assumptions there. A lot of schools have a lunch period that consists of eating in a cafeteria and then going outside to play until the lunch period is over. Most students do not take the entire time to eat their lunch, but the school must allot a certain amount of time for it. At least, this is how it was in every one of my schools growing up.

where did u read it was inthe lunchline?

obviously kids are allowed outside or into the gym to play sports during lunch when they are playing bball...if they can play bball y cant she do a handstand?

Well, imo, they're just looking out for her future. It's clear we dont' need any more 'look at me I'm an attention whore' pics, we already have enough.

If we don't stop it when they're 11, who'll stop 'em when they're 18?!!

Not me.

That's for sure. 😀
