I might be reading this wrong, but isn't her point that Male seniors who don't make varsity football allowed to play JV, but girl seniors who don't make varsity volleyball can't play JV. but then again, I might be wrong cause the quote above doesn't mention if it's senior boys who don't make varsity. however if it is the case were senior guys who don't make varsity football can play JV but senior girls who don't make varsity volleyball can't play JV then I think she's got a legit beef, and the whole bus thing is b/s.

actually, I'm assuming that there is a JV volleyball team, if there isn't a JV volleyball team then I'd say SOL and no lawsuit will help because if the school only has budget for a varsity volleyball team and no jv team then that's just how it is...

thats how i took it as well

and the Seniors on JV is a district think it varys even withing states IIRC, and IMO its stupid,just as stupid as saying a Freshman cant play on teh varsity team even if they are good enough

I love her arguement about the football team on buses vs the volleyball team in vans. Did she forget that a football team has like 70 players while a volletball team has like 12?

Did she also forget that the football program brings money into the school and the volleyball program just eats money?

I ran cross country in high school and I was always thankful for the football team. If it weren't for them then none of the non-revenue sports could even exist.

Same with mine. This was across all sports both girls and boys. Juniors got to play on JV but seniors had to hang it up if they didn't make the cut.

ummm that comes down to coaches discretion, not gender equality. Some coaches consider JV to just be second or third string, and thus will put a senior there. Other coaches consider JV to be a prep period for varsity, thus making it pointless to take up a valuable spot with a senior. I hope this girl gets run over by that football bus.

I don't believe that my HS had an age limit for JV either. On my cross country team, the top 8 runners based on time were the varsity and everybody else was JV. It could change from week to week. I was technically on varsity for one week my senior year, JV the rest of the time. I believe football was the same way, although most who didn't think they were ever going to get on the varsity squad quit playing well before senior year. Our indoor track team didn't really have a JV at all. Everybody practiced. Best runners ran at the meets. If you wanted to run in a meet, you could switch to the events the team didn't have runners for. I ran a few mid distance events because I was never going to get into any of the sprints. My question is would she have sued if she had made the team? If not, then this suit is pointless.

As the father of two daughters I have to support this kid as well. You could not pay me enough to watch girls playing any sports until my own kids started to play .

So does she want bathrooms on the vans, or buses with bathrooms for 12 people? I think they should go with the vans with bathrooms, because that would be cool.

I can't wait until I have to compete with people like this in the work force.

I still disagree. My volleyball team in HS had a similar structure - the JV team was a 'training ground' for varsity, it existed so new players would be experienced when they reached the varsity level. The reasoning is, when it comes to winning and record and all that, varsity is all that matters. Thus, if there is a freshman of equal or slightly lesser skill, why not take the freshman who will make an impact on varsity some day? Hell, at my school, even 11th graders had to play varsity, unless it was their first year playing and they had a shot at varsity senior year.
