Student protests call for cops, already unarmed, to stop wearing bullet proof vests

If these sissified college admins don't grow a pair and squash this once and for all, this is precisely where this will go.

So once they are done with the colleges are they going to do sit ins at corporate offices,
demanding the resignation of CEOs as well as pay and benefit increases,
and requiring more paid time off for the protest of the week or go on hunger strikes if they don't get their way?😀

Silly boy. Don't you realize that the only 'terrorists' that the left recognizes are conservative straight white males?

At the very least I think you can agree they meet the legal definition of trespassing at this point, which subjects them to removal by police using an appropriate level of force if needed.

The group should be more careful about its tactics as they already meet the "efforts in pursuit of political goals" leg of the classic definition of terrorism; a list of demands which includes policy changes meets this criteria by definition. Admittedly occupation like this is a very weak example of "using force against civilians," but area denial is a recognized military tactic and if they resist removal by police then they will have met the definition cleanly. Either way, this seems like a very counterproductive means of trying to achieve their stated goals.

A local college only allows students 3 absences per semester (appeal possible for extenuating circumstances, such as hospitalization). Their reasoning: prepare students for the real world - if the students can't handle it now, then it's the college's reputation later on when those students can't handle it for work. After 3 absences, you're booted. There's no, "but, my mommy and daddy paid my tuition." You're gone. They should implement that, then point out that just because you're protesting, doesn't mean there aren't repercussions. If you feel it's more important than your degree, fine. But others don't feel your moronic demands are worth interrupting that university's functioning. E.g., if I missed work for a week, I'd be fired. I couldn't tell my employer, "but, I was busy at a protest!"

You being one of the most thoughtful contributors here, and an educator, I'm really surprised by this attitude.

Without commenting on the merits of this particular protest, I think colleges in general would want to foster an environment where students question authority and bring attention to injustice. Yes, students still need to pass their exams and write their papers, but I don't think need institutional of higher learning to get people to show up to work. Millions of people do that without a college degree.

I think the comparison to a professional job is terribly specious. The job of a University is to educate, develop, and enrich the students. An employer is exchanging wages for a job to be performed.

Look at these fuckin terrorists. (The terrorists are the ones on the stools, of course.)

Revs Jesse and Al helped create this monster, and said monster may very well devour them unless said monster is stopped.

I think even Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are shaking their heads in dismay at that one.

Kids these days. Let them go without food and Playstation for a few days. Should be fun watching them hold themselves hostage, and then have their parents pay for damages and lost wages.

I doubt it will get that far. These kids know the difference between college and the real world.
You seriously fail to realize how stupid these kids are. Watch and be amazed, just when you think it won't get any further they never cease to amaze every week.

I used to think that way too. Then we started having all these protests at noteworthy campuses.

shrug. I think once they get into the real world they are in for a shock. For the record we raised my wife's younger sister (23) and she just entered what i would call the real world. where she has to work to pay rent, car payment etc. After a lifetime of people giving her free stuff. She was amazed at how much everything cost and how little you get paid. Then dealing with boss's outside of college work And the fact that shit like this won't work in the real world. You want a living wage? get a real job.

She changed from a kid like these in the article to more of a normal working human. Why should her hard work go to support someone else?

I think reality sets in during the first few months of actual hard work and taxes.

And I'm saying, they won't make it to the real world. When most people DO make that transition, they might take one step towards it such as:

1. Apply for 1 or 2 dream jobs, none of which do they have any qualifications for outside of school
2. Work 3-4 months at a job before quitting or getting fired.
3. Blame society for all their failures from 1 and 2. They are oppressed. White people are to blame. Let's protest! White man is bringing us down!

How do you think Occupy Wallstreet came about? They will just make another one, except make it more geared towards race next time - such as Black Lives Matter. Mark my words, it will take-off again, and unless they are squashed like bugs it will continue while the real world rolls their eyes until they fall out.

Wow, does she really ask that? I mean, forget that her taxes are probably pretty low to begin with, what about that fact that other people's hard work supported her for 22 years?

People get upset when they have shitty job prospects after going into 5 figures of debt to get their degree. Film at 11.
