Student Loans: I am crapping a brick over here

So i logged into to what my balance is for my student loans, and it says "Paid in Full by Mail". Sounds great, but seriously I am terrified over here.

Only thing I can think of, is that my loan consolidation went through or something. That was a long time ago though. Could I have defaulted and someone else picked up my tab so they can screw me on interest or something. I don't think Santa dropped me off a gift.

Long ago meaning months or years? It too my consolidation company a couple months before it was all fixed and ready to go.

Remember that deadline for consolidation in July, when they expected (and did) jack up the rates through the roof.

The mafia has paid your loans. You now owe your debt to them. Enjoy your life.

Plus double whatever your loans came out to. And that doubles every week you don't pay or don't perform some service beneficial to the mafia.

My guess is that your consolidation loan went through.

Is there any reason why it wouldn't?

I'd bet the same thing. My consolidation loan went through at the beginning of November, when my grace period ended.

Considering that federal specifically prohibits anybody paying your loan other than you or an authorized (in triplicate, with paperwork) entity the only possible option is that your consolidation loan went through. Otherwise you can just call up whatever company handled the loan in the first place and tell them that the payment was unauthorized. They'll invalidate the transfer and you can go back to paying them directly.

My, what a tale of hope and dread. The possibilities bouncing back and forth in your brain must be about denting your skull from the inside. The mundane consolidation loan, an okay thing; the evil debt collector waiting to store your nuts in a jar for the next twenty years; a secret angel blessing you with a debt free start on life; who knows? Well, try to get a good night's sleep and see what's up in the morning.
