When I was teaching it wasn't unusual if I confiscated 2-3 phones /day. I took them down to the office, if the student wanted it back they had to go speak with the guidance counselor or principal. Even watched a teacher smash one with a hammer, after the student had been warned 3x in one semester to not bring a phone into his class. THAT was awesome. :D

These forums are littered every day with these one-off stories. If you honestly think society's morals have grown in recent years/decades I feel sorry for you.

The media is filled with doom and gloom, it's what sells. There are plenty of awesome people out there. Stop following the media, it's bad for you.

He'd just be the wacko that blasts the Drill Sargent away ala Full Metal Jacket.

Who says these folks get weapons anytime soon?

They just need a new life and some training. Some kind of military style program for teens that cannot handle an education. Gotta take a step back from any attempt to teach them higher ed and focus on something more basic that they're lacking, discipline and respect.

If I did something like this there would likely be nothing left of me to prosecute after my parents got ahold of me. Now a days, it must have been the teachers fault.

Don't bring your parents into this now! They obviously didn't care about a child that they let go through school who was and still is unable to spell words, know when a sentence ends, use apostrophes, etc??? Any of this ringing anything other than a dinner bell for you?

I guess it must have been the teacher's fault. :whiste:

Except the military wouldn't take him. No fatties allowed.

Prison takes them just fine. What I propose is more like a draft for those who drop out of school. Not meant to see combat or live weapons unless they're deemed fit and ready. Meant to stop them from being another waste of flesh in a cell.

You control their activities, you control their food, you control if they are fat. Shape them into a human that isn't a threat to society. Figure out a program that integrates people into the fold, instead of a life of crime. This is rehabilitation.

Dude, there is only a small percentage of violent, stupid kids like this vs the much higher percentage of normal, everyday kids. Society has always had this, we are not in any more moral decay than we were in the 20's. Read a little bit about history, you'll find tons of zoot suit kids committing all sorts of crazy crimes. Or you could read a book like The War in American Culture: Society and Consciousness During World War II....one story talks about 11 youths robbing a gas station. Kids and violent crimes litter American History as do other countries.

Good kids, don't make the news. Remember that. Watching too much news just makes you paranoid.

What we need is a picture of this victim as a 10 year old cherub, and proof that the teacher is a predator of innocent children.

So anyone want to get a buzzword bingo going for this guy? We could have the usual culprits such as "he was an angel" and "he would never hurt a fly", and my personal favorite "he was always so quiet."

People go nuts over their cell phones these days, it's like their drug. You know you have it pretty damn bad when you're at a theater during a movie and have to peak into your pocket every few minutes, I've seen girls do that but they use their purse to hide it. I don't get it but its a serious addiction that obviously can erupt in violence if you interfere.

These forums are littered with one-off stories because these forums are littered with one-off crazy people who chase dramatic news journalism.

You don't have to watch the news to see it. Kids back talking their parents in public and the parents do nothing about it. We saw it the other night when we went out to eat and mom with her two little shit's running all over the place. Kids can pick up on the fact that all mom is going to do is repeatedly say I am not going to tell you again or This is your last warning. If all we did was put up signs to enforce traffic laws without actual police or fines to enforce the laws, you think more people will break the laws? I can't put all the blame on the parents. We are basically making it so disciplining your child can land you in jail.

It's not societal decay. It's one incident. Honestly, you guys need to stop posting these one-off stories here - it's bad for your own mental health.

This. Kid will be punished.

Happened plenty when we got paddled in school too, talkback and disrespect that is but it's normal thing for kids to do. Violence to discipline violence does nothing to prevent it. You have to get through into their head, some are easier than others but since when did getting the switch, belt, paddle or hours of sitting in an empty room prevent children from misbehaving?...oh it didn't, that's why so many of us got spanked a lot. Overall though, the point is that most kids are just normal kids and will grow up into normal adults whether they were disciplined much or not. Our society is not decaying, it's just different. Every decade seems to be different but remember that spanking your kid does more for you than it does you child, it's a cheap, easy and quick way to deal with your annoyance. It's harder to actually sit down with them and talk and actually spend more time with them.

If harsh punishment actually worked, then all the abused kids who got hammered with dad's fist would grow up to be the most obedient, kindest person you ever knew but often they turn out to be criminals and abusers themselves.

If you ever got paddled more than once, then obviously it doesn't work. Everyone is different. I'm not against paddling or the belt, it's really more of a straighten up this minute kind of thing but does nothing to actually alter the child's behavior, all it does is make them cry and whine loudly as to annoy everyone to death.

Yeah, you were hinting at the word draft to begin with before this post.

The military is more professional these days and probably going to be culled more.

They do not want or need these types, it's not like a Vietnam war thing, many things changed after that mess, ya think ?
