Well if it's ok for a student send porn to his classmates, does that make it ok for an adult to send porn to the 14 year old girl he just met on myspace? Or should only children be allowed to send porn to other children?

The law is on the books for a very good reason. Whatever his intentions, the kid should have known better and now he's going to pay for it.

In HS we had to telnet in and use PINE for email.

Most people couldn't figure it out.

"What if you sent it to someone's house and their parents aren't home and a child opens it?"

OMG just imagine if the parents aren't home who will the child run and cry to?!? Assuming opening an email with a picture of a man's genitails doesn't create a LHC-like blackhole. Ugh..

We had a student who did that. Student was 18. There was some vulgar language that accompanied the picture that he sent to less than a dozen students.

One day later, the student spent the first of many days (weeks) in county jail.

Oh my, what a bunch of whiners.. Was anyone harmed? No. Will it irreparably damage a kid's psyche? No. He should be suspended for 10 days for using a stolen email account, that's about it.

I like how it says the "specialist" did this, the "specialist" did that...

The specialist hit the recall message button and amazed us all.

The specialist then knows how to check the exchange server for where the e-mail originated from. He is just so special...ist!

Since we live in an time where pornography and nudity is absolutely everywhere, most of the crowd here (being that we're on the internet) is not going to find much of a problem with it. I will wait to see if the majority crowd overreacts, but I think that the kid should be appropriately punished for being a fool, and invading privacy.

Decency, in one form or another, is less about actual content (drugs, sex, violence, etc.) and more about the principles surrounding their usage. Although it was "only a penis," most people recognize that there is a time and a place for everything. The context in which sexual content was used, in this situation, was inappropriate in relation to the subject matter. The human body in its natural form is nothing to be ashamed of, but if you honestly believe that the senior was sending ~2,400 emails for intellectual purposes, you might be ignorant.

Part of growing up is learning how to respect the unspoken rules of decency. If this kid, as a high-school senior, doesn't understand basic "P's and Q's," than perhaps a firm, but not unrealistic, slap on the wrist will help point him in the right direction. Adults should act like adults, understanding adult themes and not misappropriating them.

I think the student should receive some retribution for his actions, if only to demonstrate that professionalism is still valued. However, I don't think his high-school career, or his chance at graduating on time, should be compromised.

Jeez I guess you should throw my high school biology teacher in jail too. She showed us pictures of pensis AND vaginas. The kid should be punished for breaking into the email account and maybe a bit more, but not thrown in jail.

What kind of goody two shoes pussy tells their teacher the second they receive something inappropriate? Good Lord, these kids are going to be completely fucked when they enter the real world.

I mean, the internet just worries me," said Laura Morefield, a parent.
What a stupid thing to say. You know what worries me? Badgers teaming up with sharks to dominate land and sea. You know why I don't say that out loud? Because we have balloons and can retreat into the sky. But even more than that, I don't say it because it makes me sound fucking retarded. So does complaining about an entire medium.
LOL

Agreed 100%.
