Student Code Includes "No Sex in Hallways"

Aug 12, 2004 1:30 pm US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) You wouldn't think you'd have to write this into law, but New York City's code of conduct for students entering classes in September will include ``no sex in the stairwells.''

The 26-page student code book also bans using slurs to insult trans-gender students, homo-sexuals and any ethnic groups.

The code also bans drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking pot in the school. It also lists weapons and other items that would make the school building unsafe.

The code book lists anti-social behavior that years ago would never have been considered.

The New York City Education Department holds a hearing on the student code of conduct on Monday at 6 pm at the Tweed Courthouse.

Not as much as the bombing raids on foreign cities. How about the huge gulf between the haves and have nots? States from TX to MS have battled courts for decades with ever morphing excuses as to why they cannot provide an appropriate education for all children.

How many new universities were built from 1980-1988? How many new prisons?

I would say the state of our society has been in the pooper for a long time. Decent people may not be outnumbered but they certainly don't occupy the halls of power/influence in this country.

About time, they made that rule. I was so tired of having to step over people having sex in the hallways! Unless, it was me of course.

What's wrong with it? It wants to reinforce the fact that the school will not tolerate any such behavior. Just like how my "High School had a section in the code of conduct regarding sexual harassment and racial discrimination. So if anyone goes around and starts claiming that Muslims are disrespectful people towards Christians and whatever, they would get the boot.

This has got to be the stupidest thread I have read on P&N today. I went to a public high school in the suburbs that was white as bread and 99% Christian.

I remember reading ALL the regulations in the student handbook, and the student code of conduct specifically stated that no student could engage in sexual intercourse on school property. It also listed prohibitions on drugs, alcohol, and all the other things in the NYC School code of conduct.

This is nothing new - it is simply covering all the bases.

I give this thread an F+, and that is being generous. Rip, I don't think it is unreasonable to ask you to stop wasting AT Forums bandwidth posting your garbage threads. Your constant Post 'n Run tactics would have gotten you banned at other forums (like Ars).

"Fundamentalist christians are against sexual thought, YET they want us to procreate and be fruitful. Boy that's walking quite a tightrope. How do you multiply but not think about sex? You'd think they'd be FOR pornography. Maybe a centerfold in the Bible? Here's Miss Deutoronomy, her turnoffs include floods, locusts, famines..." - bill hicks

I don't judge the state of a society by its laws, I judge the state of its politicians.

Even in the 3 short years since I've left high school, rules upon rules have been set down to govern things we didn't even think about when we were there. As an example, there is now a rule against public displays of affection, as in, but not limited to, kissing, "unappropriate hugging", "physical flirting" (they give a pat on the ass as an example) and sexual gestures. Now I don't know about your high school, but at mine you would probably see at least one of these at least once per day. We all kind of ignored it for the most part. If it was getting "out of hand" (uh, so to speak), a teacher would probably tell the couple to knock it off. There was nothing wrong with this system, it worked just fine.

Now there is a rule fixing a problem that didn't exist. We could say, "Oh, what is happening to kids these days?" or we could ask what is happening to rule makers.

What a bunch of idiots.

Hey, I?d like to equate two completely different things to?

And WTF*pun intended* Of course we?re all against pre-marital sex, it?s only logical, and of course we?re not going to want it in school, that to is only logical. That many people lack the basic thinking skills to understand he inherent dangers of immoral sexual behavior, as shown by this thread, is what tells us lot about the state of our society Rip.

This thread reminds me.

My neighbor, who is very involved in his church (so involved, that EVERY WEDNESDAY night his church friends meet at his house, clogging our narrow road with their cars) has a teenage son WHO MAKES OUT CONSTANTLY WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND IN THE DRIVEWAY.

I need to tell him that this is a terrible witness. My non-church going daughter and her non-church going boyfriend agree with me... these kids have no self control, and they are going to end up getting pregnant! I mean, if they would exhibit such shameless PDA, you just know that they are getting it on when they have privacy.

Sorry, it's just really starting to bug the heck out of me. Where is the self control and the respect???

Edit: I'm especially annoyed that I am going to have to talk to the neighbor about it. I shouldn't have to!!!!

Speak for yourself there, bub.
it?s only logical,
Really, perhaps you could explains this logic to me. I seem to have misunderstood "logic" to mean "my personal moral and religious beliefs". My bad.

Well I suppose that makes sense if it disturbes learning. But beyond that, who really cares?

There ARE no "inherent dangers" if you are smart about it. What really shocks me time and time again is that people do not understand how anyone can hold a different set of morals. I personally don't see anything wrong with per-marital sex. You do. That's great. You wait for marriage, I won't. But this concept of forcing your beliefs on everyone else is really scary.

Hm, I hope they clearly define what "Sex" means. If two people were kissing in the stairwell would that constitute as "sex"? Do they have to be partially naked? Do they have to be in intercourse? Does oral sex count as "sex" if there is no penetration?

Good old loop-holes. :)

Speak for yourself. I'm all about educating my kids about sex when it's time (when puberty comes into play), and teach them to decide on their own, but if they do have sex, to be smart about it. To me, that's only logical. To try to dictate to your kids how to live will only make them rebel, but I'm sure you've already thought of that.

Funny, I would say that it's a greater danger to society to have religious people try to tell me how to live my life, when I don't have the same faith or beliefs as them.

WOW...what an ignorant statement. You do realize that there are some kids that do respect thier parents wishes right? So your blanket statement does not apply in all situations.

Funny, I would say that it's a greater danger to society to have religious people try to tell me how to live my life, when I don't have the same faith or beliefs as them.

ahem....since when does religion and ethics go hand in hand? I am by no means religious but I do have a code of ethics, and in this society it is not unreasonable to assume that kids of this generation are having sex in public in the halls of thier schools....which according to most anyone's standards is not only unethical but digusting.

Besides,it is illegal....you know that whole public indecency thing....second at what point of your discussion about sex with your kids are you going to tell them that need to start wearing a hazmat suit to school so they don't slip and fall in someone else's goo and end up with some form of an infection because they have a cut on thier hand and it gets contaminated from the splillage?

Is that what you mean by people dictating to you thier morals?

Yes, Isla, but how much can you see of those two without the binoculars? <--------[Red Dawn] Joking, damnit, I'm joking! [/Red Dawn]

While it might be a tad irritating, I'm not so sure I'd get all that exercised about it, unless it was TOO MUCH in my face. I mean, how many places in your house have such a clear view of their driveway, anyway?

Back in the late devouring period, when fish first grew feet and walked on out of our primordial oceans, grabed weapons, founded fiefs, and first began to hound other fish as heretics, I, too was young, and sported a more or less constant erection. Social mores were more circumscribed then. Even first base was a fevered dream. I'm talking 14, 15, in the pre drugs portion of the sixtiies.

We made out with all our clothes on, and that was that, but OH! Let me speak of the mad, crazed passion! When that's all you get, you make the most of it, and it makes the most of you.

Just a few years later, I was in college when the whole damn "ancien regime" got blown sky high. Sky high, that's an appropriately descriptive phrase. Then I travelled. I sampled. I indulged. But I tell you this. There were many times I had sex (including the ONE time I finally succssfully convinced two women to have sex with me simultaneously), and on many of those occassions, there was less true passion than on those fully clothed lip locking days of yore.

So, maybe, just maybe, that's what's happening with your neighbor's son and his g/f. If they were really doing it, they wouldn't need to go at each other so in that driveway. I could be WAY off base on this, I know, and I do presume mightily (I have tasted the cold hard slap of trout before), but . . .

Your real beef might be more with their dickhead, hypocritical Dad. Rubbing his son's behavior in his face just might be a guilty pleasure, no? If so, I say, PRAISE JEEBUS, but the kiddies be.
