they just made an example out of him. was this a city school or a subarban school? i bet it was a small school...cuz nurses at bigger schools would have more things to do than make an example on the zero-tolerance issue

people like that nurse are making today's society more apathetic to others' needs due to fear of litigation

Was she in that much trouble?

Not to be a prick, but people generaly exagerate things when they get in trouble and make it seem like they were worse than they really were.

I guess you've never had an asthma attack. I have asthma, and 95% of the time it's mild, but that 5% of the time can get scary.

It's a dangerous drug?

I have asthma, and I know that as a kid it's almost always pretty serious when you get an attack. I used other people's inhalers when for some reason I didn't have mine. When you can't breathe, your right to live trumps school or state law. I blame the school nurse, both for not doing something to help the girl, and then for trying to punish the person who did. She probably just got mad at having her decision overruled by the boy. Any nurse that doesn't do something to help a kid having an asthma attack is probably in the wrong profession anyway.

this is such bullcrap. If he had not let her use the inhaler and she had gone into seizures, arrest, died, or whatever...would it be considered neglect or the like since he knew she required the same exact medication? did the nurse even bother to warn the boy about the violation prior to allowing her use? crap like this is why i don't want to have to bring up a child in this country/era.

Oh, I can't find the article right now but I read something else the other day about a kid suspended from school because the school security guard found a knife in his car. Only thing is, the knife was inside an unopened emergency road-side pack.

The security guard at my high school used to bum smokes off me. I knew who I could score drugs from and where I could get a handgun from in 10 minutes, no questions asked. I usually carried a pocket knife with me and would even break it out in my Drafting class to sharpen my pencil with. The teacher even commented, Hey that's a nice looking knife where did you get it(Schrade Blade, nice weight in your hand. I was also an honor student. In my 3 years of going there, no one OD'd or was shot. I recently went to my 10 year high school reunion and they confiscated my knife at the homecoming game. Had I been a student I probably would have been suspended or expelled.

My kid will never step foot into one of these so called "Place of Education"

All that aside, the whole concept is retarded, sending the kid to jail over this is a stuipid waste of time.

Have you ever had an attack? mmmk, thought not.

Place a plastic bag over your head, until you have trouble breathing. Tell me if you like it. Ask yourself if you could not remove it, and someone else could. Would you want a higher authority saying no you can't help MegaloManiaK? Wait until he dies or paramedics get here.

Wow now that would have been a punishment. 😉

The situation won't be resolved without a multi-million dollar lawsuit it seems. From history it is the only thing school districts listen to so I hope the parents can fund a massive lawsuit against the school system for punishing someone providing emergency medical assistance.

:Q

What have our school systems boiled down to people
rolleye.gif
? I used to carry a pocket knife with me every day! I even loaned it to a teacher a time or two. Most of my friends, myself included had shotguns in their trucks too. That was in 1994, not that long ago...

What the hell is going on these days?

I can't even imagine how angry I would get if I'd get caught in a ridiculous situation like this one. I'm not normally a violent guy, but if someone would tell me something like that, I would probably *destroy* everything in the office.

How truly insane. No judge in his right mind will give that kid anything but a "good job". Freaking idiots at the school.

I think punishing him would be analogous to finding a police officer passed out somewhere and you grab his gun (illegal), and then shoot some maniac who was about to blow up 500 people (good job).

I see your point skoorb and I agree with you 100%. Except the law does not work that way and the poor judge who has to make that tuff decision will always rule in favor of the law. Can't make exceptions to the law for every single action.

Like others said, they could of exaggerated that she was "dyeing" . That inhaler could of killed that girl. Is her boy friend a doctor? Doubt it. Maybe , even, she was having a heart attack or panic attack, then which that inhaler could of collapsed one of her lungs or could of gave her an allergic reaction.

Guess who would of been sued if that girl died? Likely the school. This is what the law has to take under consideration.

Mostly because people get scared and realize later that it was stupid....

however hindsight matters not if you are dead.

What my question is where did the story go wrong?...her in the nurse's office in distress and he giving her a puff in the nurse's office while she was in distress...what did he bang her a new hole while she was getting puffed up?

Seriously if I saw this righteous bish in public I'd hit her in the face with a can of coke.

I hope they get rid of that stupid principal. You'd expect them to stand up for the rights of the kids rather than the law in this instance. I doubt it will matter much after the judge overturns the case and the community forces the superintendent to can this hoser.

In the meantime the student will miss school and fall behind in classes. He will get a lower grade because of this. Retard nurse will continue dispensing stupid idiotic medical advice with no reprimands or whatever. Welcome to the government school system.

Is it me or do more people have ass-mar these days? Or is it that people with ass-mar aren't just dying as much as they used to?

If drugs are not allowed on school campuses, then as soon as an EMT arrived for the girl, the EMT would be doing something illegal unless he administered her off school grounds.

I like to think of the boy as an "EMT" that happened to be on campus, although I'm sure there are special exception for medical personnel to carry drugs on them on school grounds, but they probably need consent from the person to be treated and waivers from the school for liability.

I may be wrong in my thinking, however.

KAG SMASH!!!

I would charge the nusre the school board as well as the aresting officers on atemted murder charges. They are holding back and restricintg the administration of vital medication which I belive is exactly the same as holding back Oxygen which is equivilent to strangiling someone or puting a plasic bag over somwones head.

Regardless of what the outcome is I think that this charge should be filed agains all parties involved AND a suit should be filed against the school board forcing complete liability and guarteed availibility of any possible medical drug for any reason at any time. The reason for complete liability is because if someone has an asthma atack for whatever reason and is out of reach of the office even if it does or does not have the needed inhailer. Then I think that the school board and all facualty involved should be completely liable for murder in the case of death or any other injury that may occur for ANY reason.

And I would never send my kids to any such school knowing that their livers would be in jepardy there.
