So my monitor (Dell U2412M) randomly got 3 stuck pixels magically appear on it a full year after purchase. I've taken extremely good care of it and essentially never touch the screen in any way, yet this happened.

Really just curious as to how something like this can happen, if someone could shed some light on the topic. I'm assuming it's just sub-optimal manufacturing processes, but again, how does that lead to pixels deciding to die off? I was under the assumption that once they work, they basically keep working indefinitely even on lower quality panels.

It's basically the luck of the draw. I have an 8-year old 22" Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 1680x1050 that still doesn't have even 1 dead pixel. Can you RMA it or replace it from the shop where you bought it?

Check online for guides to unsticking the pixels. Sometimes the nature of the stuck pixel can be massaged/exercised out by using a special program that flashes different colors on the screen. But if the pixels are just dead/broken altogether, then you can't use those tricks that might work on stuck pixels.

It's still under warranty (default 3 years, I think this line of Dell monitors has that or something).

Really, I was just curious as to the mechanics/science behind it. I thought once they work, they work, unless something physically damages them.

Thanks, but those are usually a longshot at best, and I got the warranty anyway. :D
