Stuck on the tarmac at BWI

Sitting on the plane for 1 hour so far waiting to push back. Still one hour to go before we can go to the de-icing pad which will take another 1.5 hours.

Yay

Last time I was in that situation, there were two 12 year old girls behind me that were all ramped up on caffeine or something and talked non-stop for at least 3 hours.

My wife just sat and patted my leg hoping I wouldn't go postal.

The plane would need to be in the air for that to happen. Although it would be funny if the landing gear suddenly gave way because I was posting on ATOT

The waves could possibly set the gas tank on fire. You would not be laughing then.

Look on the bright side. Think about the real estate value of the land BWI sits on and be thankful they're not charging you rent! 😀

For real, nobody thinks of the bigger picture. We all know Cell Phones can cause brain cancer, next think you know, the captain is infected. He hits the throttle and the plane takes off at break neck speed, crashing into the terminal and killing even more.

Try a social experiment and see if you can get people to sing Christmas carols or, round up some businessmen and see if you can empty the bar before you take off or, stick your tongue out at a kid or, declare yourself lord of the emergency exit.

isn't there like a 3hr rule for sitting on the tarmac then you're compensated $25k?!
or is the airline fined $25k for each passenger?

Weather delays are excepted from that. The airport can only service so many aircraft at a time when they all have to safely de-ice. Besides the literal availability of the deicing trucks and space on the pads, it affects takeoff routines (extra taxi time because of ice on the ground, etc.) and in some cases alters flight plans and loadplanning for the planes (extra fuel requirements) depending on where they are headed, which can add to the ground delays.

I been thru BWI many times.
Never got stuck.

In fact right now I'm relaxing in a cushy Lay z boy.
May go to bed, may not.

Look at it this way: you'd get free tickets to anywhere in the continental US out of it. I saw it on an episode of the Simpsons, so it must be true!😛

That's a good wife. 🙂

Well, finally got home. Landed at DTW then had to wait 30 minutes as their gates were backed up too. Then had a fun drive home in the freezing rain passed all kinds of cars recently driven into a ditch or up an embankment

Got home just before midnight, only little after the original 7:30pm estimate

It was just under 3 hours tarmac time anyway. There might also be something in there about progress as we went from pushback to de-icing

Simpsons did it! They'd probably try and do a ticket refund but I don't think that $2.50 would go too far

I was once flying across the country out of Atlanta. They had equipment failure on the plane while we were boarding during pre-flight checks and we got delayed 10 minutes....which made us miss our take-off slot. We taxied out of the gate and sat on the tarmac for over an hour with the engine off to save fuel.....in June. It was hot and stuffy on the plane and there were kids crying after 30 minutes. It was a pretty miserable experience.
