Stuck in HL2

I'm at a point in the game I can't advance from. Are there dead ends in this game? It's where I fell into a room in a waterworks(?), killed the flying bots, moved the barrels down & stacked them up(much ado) to get in the big pipe to go to another water filled room with a ladder to nowhere & crates & big spools under the water which I stacked up to get back in the big pipe. There are bars dividing this & another room from which there seems no escape. What am I missing? Is there a way out?

There's a switch or valve somewhere there. Try destroying stuff(like the grate). I thinkI jnow where you are, but don't recall the exact way out.

Can you provide a screenshot? No dead-ends really, you're missing something.

Don't give up, there is a way out of there.

In one of the rooms there is a valve to turn to flood the rooms.

There is a valve near the bottom of the pipes that you need to switch on to flood the room, then you will able to swim up to the hall above you, or you could just use no clip

Nix on the screenie ATM. I've worn that crowbar down to a nub bangin' on the bars & stuff. I busted the crates up after breaking the boards to let them float up but didn't see anything of use.

There should be a couple of those big cable spools down there. That's what you want to jog free so they come to the surface. Then you can use them to get across.

BTW if you want a tip going forward... three words. "Automatic turret collection." :D

I did that but that just goes back to where I came from. What's this auto turret collection?

Oh, ok. You know the first room, where you fought the flying bots. There's a ladder in there. Climb up it and then turn to face those horizontal pipes and you can hop onto them and walk to the left. Then duck and creep over until you drop onto that platform with the metal railing, and into the next room, and that's where there's a water valve. Once you turn the water valve, then go back, fight a few more bots, dive into the water, swim through the big pipe to your cable spools, and now the water level is high enough to jump up onto the far edge and keep going.

About the automatic turrets, you know the ones that are indestructible and you have to knock them over to shut them down? Eventually what's-her-name subverts some so they are friendlies. Well, it's a bit of work, but you can take them along with you. I don't want to spoil any surprises, but you can figure it could be handy to have about eight or nine of those things on YOUR side...

The exit is a door up on the ledge, which the raised water level + cable spools allow you to get to. Have fun! :)

Thx again, I hate to cry 4 help but it was starting to remind me of MYST! I guess I need to go at it more from that angle. Haven't encountered any auto turrets yet but I'll keep an eye out.

The only real problem with it is that they give you so many barrels that you think you're supposed to stack them up and after you do, you can't progress. They needed to make the entrance to the lower area so small that barrels couldn't get through and people would start to realize that they have to look for another way through.

Holy crap, 8 or nine turrets? haha, I thought I was being paranoid by bringing 2 or 3 along through various sections.
They sure made some surprises and cleaning out some rooms easy though.

I'm counting the ones that you get in the first two places, plus the ones that are in the last place. They are some baaaad pieces of equipment... hmmm, can I cram a couple into the teleport deck and take 'em along... hmmm :)

BTW I consider that room to be child's play compared to the convolutions in HL1 to get the rocket engines to fire, in order to destroy the Giant Asparagus Creatures in the rocket test pit :p

ahhh, I thought you meant that you had 8 or 9 in one room along with you. It was nice having the extra firepower. (I just completed HL2 last Sunday)

I'm actually playing through HL1 right now, haven't done that in years. Sure brings back some memories.

In HL2, those turrents that you can use to your advantage are great. My strategy was to place them where they were originally at least in one part, then hide. The combine couldn't knock them over.

You guys convinced me to replay the good old HL1 (got the source version). I Heard they released high-res textures for the source version, does anyone know where I can get them?
