Stuck at XP splash screen when using ESATA

I've been using 2 ESATA for a couple of years now for backup. All of a sudden, the system hangs at the XP splash screen unless I boot up with the ESATA's unplugged. How can I solve this?

When I plug in the 2 ESATA, the system seems to slow to a crawl for 10 to 15 minutes and then they appear in "My Computer".

I ran msconfig and looked over my startup programs. I had recently upgraded my adobe acrobat. I noticed there were some new adobe programs and unchecked them. It now starts up, so it appears to have been some issue with acrobat.
