First off, why don't you tell us what you were trying to do with that program.

How far did the program go before you noticed the problem?

What version of Windows are you running?

What messages does it stop at when you boot?

What steps did you try in the link you mentioned?

I was using win8.1 professional.. I was trying to
Expand my c drive using minitool wizard merge function
All went good and it asked to reboot the system to
Complete the process..... After rebooting minitool wizard
Took around 20 minutes to merge my c drive with another
Drive (e) in my system...
Again system reboot...
And now I am stuck at pre bios.. Message.. Saying press
F10 to enter in bios f11 system repair...
I tried them all pressed those keys but nothing happens
It stuck at pre bios displaying just compaq..
When I remove the hard disk.. I am able to get into bios
And regard http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2265000
I removed the cmos battery.. Installed it back
But the same problem continues..... Same pre bios screen with
Compaq.. And press f10 for bios setup and f11
When I remove the the hard disk.. Only then I am able to
Get into bios.. When hard disk is connected system stuck
at pre bios... Help plzzz

Can you check your disk in another computer? Maybe it is possible to format it on another pc.

Was E a partition on the same disk, or another hard drive altogether? (Although I am guess this is the recovery partition on the same disk). Did you tell it to format/ delete the E partition or just shrink it some, keeping the data intact?

IIRC, the recovery partition on systems I have seen in the past have been a different file system, so I am not sure how this would have worked.

Do you have another computer running Windows 8? If so, you could try creating a repair disk and see if Windows can repair the problems on the hard drive on your Compaq.

If you can't do that, or if it doesn't work, as has been mentioned, your next best bet is to put the drive on another computer ("slave", if you will) and run data recovery on the drive to get your personal data back.

If you don't already have recovery DVD's for this computer, you will probably want to order some from Compaq (HP).

Keep in mind, once you recover your data, you may want to go ahead and delete the partition from the drive from the Compaq, as whatever the program has done may have messed up the MBR.

hi friends ,,

after a long effort i am still unable to recover data or my hard drive ...

i had connected it to multiple computer as slave drive..but when it is connected to any computer as slave ..the computer stops loadind operating system and they also hangs at pre bios screen

i had also tried to connect it as a external usb drive ..after purchasing a usb casing for hard drives ..and it also fails ...

my hard drive spin normally ...no glitching sounds ....and when i connect it to a Pc as master drive it boots up till windows logo...and then nothing

i had tried ...
1. made a bootable usb of windows and tried to recover it that failed
2. tried to connect it as slave to different pc that also failed
3. tried to connect it as a usb drive by using usb casing for hard drive
that also failed ...

only thing it does is when i connect it as master drive to any pc (not in my laptop) it boots till windows logo and then nothing
guys ...what are the options i have to recover that hard disk.without calling in professionals.....:confused:

Don't boot with the drive.

1) Put drive in USB enclosure.
2) Boot up a different PC.
3) After the PC is booted, plug in the USB enclosure.
4) Attempt data recovery (I'm going to guess the MBR is probably hosed, so you'll need something capable of low-level recovery.)

I'd be shocked if it did, given what happened. Like I said, the MBR is likely hosed.

First, look at what it shows in Disk Management (but don't do anything, and if it asks you to initialize the disk, cancel) to get an overview of just how badly mangled things are.

And then you'll need to use low-level data recovery software (sorry, I don't have any to recommend, since I haven't been down this road before) to try to scrape together what bits you can.
