Struggling with backing up drives

I've been struggling for awhile now with getting good backups. I'm sick of wasting time and could really use some help. Tonight I backed up which took almost 2 hours and got a flie error with about 3% remaining. Argh.

I'm running 2 relatively new 20G drives in RAID 0 as my main drive and a second brand new 40G drive for backing up. Right now I have a fresh load of Win 2K Pro.

First I was using Ghost and getting CRC errors all over the place. Finally I had a catastrophe and almost couldn't get either of 2 backups to restore so I got mad and bought Drive Image. Then I replaced an aging backup drive with the brand new one. Now I'm getting error 1802 (I think thats the number) all the time with Drive Image.

I have no errors or anything that point to bad memory or anything like that. I've got 512 mb ram in 2 sticks. I've been running Norton Utilities just prior to my backup, but of course Norton just reboots your puter and runs CHKDSK now. I don't know how effective CHKDSK is.

What the.....!!?? How are you guys doing this? What am I doing wrong?

Why can't I just make a good backup? I'm really panicked that I will have a failure or want to reload and my backups will not work.

Radified

Raid-0 is something i avoid-(potential problems not worth it) so i can't walk you through that.

However, on my home systems (non-raid drives) i use Ghost ALL the time making clean OS CD images.
