I'm very interested in this, but I can wait a good while until there's a killer deal ($15 or less). Too many games to play anyway.

Plus I'll wait to see what patches come along.

That plus see if the modding community can do something with it. Not sure how mod friendly it is if it is at all.

Maps were ALL too small on Stronghold 2. That was my problem. If you built a suitable castle for all of the buildings, the borders of your castle were touching all 4 edges of the map. Fitting everything in made me feel like I was playing Tetris with buildings.

Stronghold 1 and Crusaders the maps were huge comparable to needed castle size. In many of the reviews posted above the size of the map was listed as an issue. Just from that, I might have to pass on this one. Sucks because I really liked the concept of this game.

Guys (or girls) thanks for the support and the rallying. I WISH I COULD SAY I sent my parents out. I just turned 53 so do the math.

:D

Just got an Xbox 360 last summer. That too is also becoming a time sink.
Have 2 games... Just waiting to be opened. Fable 2 and ME2.
I keep trying to get innto LA Noire. I love it. LOVE the concept. Dont like I can totally screw up an interogation and still move forward.
Anyone rememeber the Wing Commander games? If you lost space battle "X" the next battle came from the "hard tree". More enemies or more powerful enemies. If you won, the next battle came from the "easy tree".
Man, does anyone do that anymore?

Side Note... I think it was WC 2... I had bought my PC and it was doing all I wanted. Was all full of myself. From PC Richards I believe.
Paid too much.
Wing Commander 2. 34 MEG install. YES MEG.....
Twice the size of my hard drive.
I can rememeber scrimping and saving and driving to Comp USA to buy a 170 MEG Western Digital.

Really... Pass the geritol.......

Dont feel bad, I am even older than you!! Still enjoy playing games, even though some people dont understand it.

I liked Stronghold 1 but got tired of trying to keep the villagers happy and economy running. I dont think I ever finished it.

I saw a review of Stronghold 3 on some obscure site that gave it a decent reception. Apparently some of the things people didnt like about the expansions have been removed, and it is more like the original game. I will most likely pick it up when it gets cheap. Right now though, I want to buy Skyrym and MW3, along with ME3 when it comes out, so cant see paying full price for this game.

I had a terrible graphical experience with the game. Using Eyefinity screws up mouse accuracy and forces you to click underneath your units in order to select them. No matter what your screen resolution is set to, the minimap and build console takes up a huge 33% of the screen. It seems like the developers fell off the wagon when it comes to improving the core experience and decided to jump on the 'numero trois' sequel bandwagon.

Patch is out

Patch available on Steam - Version 1.124196 10 Hours, 21 Minutes ago
Just to let you know a patch for Stronghold 3 is now available on Steam.

General Fixes:

· Fix for villagers which would break some saves.
· Fix for wheat farmers. If ever a wheat farmer was replaced by another wheat farmer the wheat cycle would stop.
· Fix for weaponsmith load/save issue.
· Fix for knight load/save issue which was causing crashes after load.
· Fix for issue with units ignoring your commands if they'd just been assigned to your player (e.g. reinforcements).
· Fix for incorrect minimaps showing in the multiplayer game select screen after viewing the credits.
· Fix for stats system which would break some saves.
· Fix for build proxy which would break some saves.
· Units no longer get stuck in tunnels.
· Multiple armouries/barracks can no longer be placed after loading a savegame.
· Music is off by default when creating a new profile.
· Fix for c1m1 music/ambient sfx playing in the tutorial, if c1m1
· had been selected in the mission select screen.
· Fix for multiple UI sound effects being triggered during
· initialization, causing a "crunch" sound under the Firefly logo intro movie.
· Keep positions are now deserialized correctly when switching between maps. Correct keep position icons are now shown on the minimap.
· Fix for thread memory bug causing sudden large drop in
· framerate.

Multiplayer Fixes:

· Various issues with Multiplayer lobbies which should be much
· more stable now.
· Fix for the issue with players joining & leaving MP lobbies
· before start. It should no longer hang on "starting game".
· Teams/colours should get assigned immediately on startup (no
· more waiting a few seconds and then your team number changes).
· Fix for players still being able to build after being eliminated
· from the game.
· Multiplayer estate assignment should be more consistent.
· Various out of sync issues.

Dear Stronghold fans,

You may not think it, but we at Firefly pay attention to almost every word you say. Whether it’s a Facebook comment, forum post, tweet or rant on your blog, if it’s about Stronghold chances are that someone at Firefly will have read it. The series has long had a devout following of fans, many of whom have been with us from the very start and we value all your comments...

Stronghold 3 is finally out and at this point we wanted to update everybody on our ‘road map’ for taking the game forward. As with previous Stronghold titles we are listening to feedback and fixing the most widespread issues first.

Initially we will be releasing a series of smaller patches to address any immediate problems with the game, such as stability, multiplayer problems and major game play affecting bugs.

Following on from this will be a series of larger patches that will add in refinements and features that didn’t make it into the original release, along with smaller bug fixes and improvements.

Once we are happy with the above, we will in the future release both new content and new features that we or you have thought of since release.

For us releasing a patch is not a trivial event, it needs to strike the right balance between frequency of release and having enough worthwhile content.

It also has to have a period of testing, so that the patch itself does not introduce further issues. Given Firefly’s small size as a developer, this will probably mean the initial patches will be released on roughly a weekly basis.

Rest assured however, we love Stronghold as much as you do and we are working hard on improving and adding to Stronghold 3 to make it the game we all want it to be. We will continue to do so over the coming months.

Yours Sincerely,
Firefly

Right back atcha. I started playing when I was 8 or 9. What a game. Damn, I feel very old now.

Just this past winter, I started playing Pharaoh, Zeus, and Rise of the Middle Kingdom again with some family. Good times.

Your post about feeling old has me feeling much older.

I'm at a wait and see stage with Stronghold 3. So far it's not looking too good, but if they can improve it with patches, then there's a chance I may pick it up down the road.

There is a quick look of it at Giantbomb. Looks pretty interesting. I didn't hear them mention much about bugs, but I didn't watch the whole thing either.

Why don't developers just...wait to release a game rather than having it be a buggy unplayable mess that needs 30 patches?
