Was wondering that also. Depending on strength of field and speed/mass of the bullet, it may change it's trajectory. If field is very strong and bullet is light and slow, it may stick to the magnet.

You're right...lead and copper won't be attached.

edit: some bullets have steel jackets
 
I ordered a couple of the rare earths for setting up a cheap, quick hall measurement system. Two magnets came with about 150 lbs surface pull each, separated by about an inch of cardboard sheets. Getting those two magnets apart was scary. They really want to pinch.

At least, I'm pretty sure. If its a neo, it was rather weak.. and the finish wasn't smooth. It looks like an alinco magnet.

I got one for free and just ended up taking it apart to investigate.. lol

They didn't even use Schottkys. 🙁

Strong magnets are used in many hybrid cars, I remember being told about a Toyota mechanic that lost his hand working on one because he didn't use the special tool to hold the engine transmission/motor apart when servicing it and it snapped back together.

You take a regular gun and you put it on a train car.
 
What amount of pull are the magnets inside a regular 3.5" HDD? Those are about the strongest I have messed with, and I'm sure they aren't even high on the scale.

So what's the women's flashlight look like? Does it just have a little bump that gets moved back and forth repeatedly? Or is the magnetic assembly worn on the finger, and then...um, repeatedly "run through" coils of wire lining the inside of the flashlight? Hmm, I think I'm going to need some R&D money. And volunteers.

Sounds about right. I haven't seen any "U" shaped magnets anywhere yet either. I guess those were faded out around the 60s or something.

Again, how could they possibly ship an 800 pound magnet?

They probably ship them in a steel box, which will severely curtail(though not eliminate) the magnetic flux. They'd probably need several inches of solid wood for the packing material to keep them from sticking to the box, though. Some of the pics on the unitednuclear site show them in wood boxes.

yup, decently sized and reinforced box is probably enonugh. magnet strength rapidly drops with distance.
