Stripes on monitor screen...

Sheesh, good thing I'm buying a new puter soon......

I wake up this morning, wake my puter up, and... there are light gray "stripes" across the screen, anytime you open a new program or reload a webpage, everything goes normal, until the content loads, then stripe accompany it.

Very odd... any guesses?

EDIT: added screenshot

Screenshot

(here is MY guess, you guys are going to see nothing, this screeenshot will look totally normal to you, and it's probably this monitor in that case I think)

Video driver gone bad? Check for updated drivers, or otherwise reinstall the drivers you have now, just in case they've become corrupted.

My friend's computer has this as well, if it's an easy fix please tell, I haven't had the motivation to fix her computer yet 😛

Do you have any screenshots? Or are they just light lines on the screen? How many lines are they, what type of monitor do you have?

Just a guess, but some monitors have thin suspension wires in the CRT that can show up on the display. Haven't seen it myself but I"ve heard about it.

Might be the video card. If it is the same problem that I had, then it is the video card. Try another one.

i think wintermute is right. you see the two horizontal grey lines on a white background the most right?? you have a aperture grille monitor and its normal. its the price you pay for more vibrant colors compared to shadow mask

Well, i'm not sure about that, it's never done this before, and its not two lines, its like a gray lines that extend out from images, like for instance, if there was a black box on the screen there would be a "bleed" of light gray extending out horizontally from that black box to the edge of the screen

How old is your monitor, and what is the brand and model? This question cannot be answered correctly without an answer to these questions...

Lumen, I had that exact problem a few months ago.

I believe your video card has gone bad. Either that or video-out connectors on it.

I've experienced the same thing you're describing: suddenly the video card "smears" everything on the screen, namely stuff that should be contrasted. And it looks like it draws smeared horizontal lines.

At first, I tried the obvious things. I thought the monitor went bad, since it seems to be a contrasting problem (since lines are drawn horizontally on the screen [unless my understanding is wrong]). but anyhow, i connected a different monitor, and the problem remained. i tried putting in a diff video card, that fixed the problem. so it was clear it was the video card.

Maybe you notice that sometimes if you don't plug the cable that goes to your monitor into the video card all the way, you get the same thing. At least, I notice this once in a while, when I reconnect my computer after moving it or whatever.

So, your video card, or probably more specifically something to do with it's connector has gone bad. 🙁

I'm starting to think credent is right, but that doesn't make sense, if you look at the screenshot you all don't see anything abnormal do you? Wouldnt that mean it's the monitor? If it were the video card would that show in the screenshot? Maybe not now that I think of it..

The monitor is 18 months old and is a 17" hewlett packard pavillion monitor...

I'm starting to be glad that I'm building my new system, this one is going to my sister, heh

Credent could be right. Try plugging the monitor into a different system if you have one. Try plugging an old video card into your computer if you have one...

What type of video card do you have anyway?
