striker ii won't overclock :(

hey all.

after seeing your preview of the asus striker ii i decided to get me one of these since they looked pretty good for overclocking 😀

my current rig is

striker ii formula mobo
qx6850
corsair dominator pc-1250 4gb
3x xfx 8800 ultra.
x-fi fatality.
150gb raptor hd
enermax galaxy 1000w psu

everything bar the NB and SB is water cooled. all cards and processor.

i can't even get the system to overclock to a measly 3.2ghz.

the system posts but once it gets to loading windows it just hangs before the windows logo appears with the little green status bar.

i am currently using bios version 0902.

i've tried messing with voltages and i use slack mem timings running it at 800mhz 5-5-5-18 22 @ 2.1v.

i can't get it to go any higher than 1340mhz on the fsb on matter how high i make voltages or how much i change.

even if i enable the asus "crazy" option and let it do it all auto the system will not get to the windows loading screen.

at a 1600mhz fsb and 9x multiplier the system just reboots itself before it starts to load windows.

any help would be greatly appreciated. i was using an evga 680i previously which was a great board to overclock. was running 3.8 stable no problem at all for months.

It sounds a lot like the problems I was having with my Striker Extreme. With the new BIOS (1305) I could not get past 2700MHz with my Q6600. I had to get BIOS 1301 to get high clocks. Since the Striker II is a very new board, you may be stuck. I don't knwo if there are other BIOS revisions that could help you.

Like my problem above, you might be limited by the fact you're using a 65nm Quad Core. Look for different BIOS revisions to try and if you can't find any that work, try another processor.

hmm thanks for the input i will look into that.

someone recommended maybe i upgrade my psu to a 1300w +

any thoughts on that ?

No way... 1000W is definitely enough for that system, maybe even overkill. nVidia's power supply certifications for Tri-SLi are ridiculous, and no computers bar big home servers will be using 1000W atm.

that is what i figured. the wattage according to my monitor is only around 600w at load when gaming.
